Ryan Adams unstoppable; composes original score for new Pacino movie, announces 7” to follow recently released album

After taking a step-back from the scene and seeking help for his Ménière's disease, a chronic degenerative disorder, Ryan Adams has reemerged as a formidable force with which to be reckoned.

He’s already dropped a handful of 7”s, gone on tour, made a number of TV appearances, released a self-titled LP which came out Sept. 9th via PAX-Am, and  he produced Jenny Lewis’ new album, The Voyager.

Soon to be dropped is yet another 7” entitled Do You Laugh When You Lie? It is available for pre-order through PAX-Am and will ship to arrive “on or around December 9th”

Perhaps most impressively however, is his collaboration with Theodore Shapiro in composing the original film score for Danny Collins, an upcoming comedy starring Al Pacino. Shapiro and Adams previously co-wrote the original song “Stay Alive” which was performed by Jose Gonzalez for last year’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Danny Collins, originally titled Imagine, features songs by John Lennon and is set to be released in Spring 2015 by Bleecker Street. For updates on the dramedy, visit the official movie website.

Below, watch Adams play the title track for Do You Laugh When You Lie? during a recent performance at Toronto’s Massey Hall:

Single Review... Islington Boys Club - Pristine / Plastic 16

Fresh out of East London you would be thought of them being another East London band trying to get big, but wait until you listen to this single. You may be surprised. I recently had one of their demos in my mixtape so I know that they are good!

Their début single Pristine / Plastic 16 is set for release on Monday 22 November 2010 (today) through Club.The.Mammoth, in association with Too Pure. Don’t delay buying it purely because this single is a limited edition of only 500 7″ vinyls.

Pristine:
The track starts off with crunching bad ass bass, little riffs and ace drumming. The vocals kick in and you fall in love with this indie-rock/electro band. The chorus is very uplifting and having it up loud you can't help but sing along to the lyrics. It then drops with a sweet riff and then slows and stops, songs over right? Nope, it then goes back into the chorus and gives you a final treat as the chorus is played.
Out of 10: 9/10

Plastic 16:
Starts off with the drums and then the guitar and bass both kick in giving you a brilliant instrumental opening to the song. This song actually does sound like Bloc Party would of done, short bursts of riffs and amazing lyrics. With swoons of ooh ooh this track indeed is slower but none the less still as beautiful. I must applaud the production on this record because it is near-perfection! I especially love the chorus with the faster tempo giving you something to nod your head to. Yes, another banger!!
Out of 10: 8/10

Ahead of the curve... Ten Bears

The very first 'Ahead of the curve' feature, in the spotlight... Ten Bears they hail from the Manchester area (which I have been told is full of upcoming bands, and full of talent. So the London of the North!)

They been around for over a year now, maybe more but sadly I don't know much about their history, only about where they are destined! Their first single was released on East City Records (who also have Chapel Club on their roster too!), the song is for fans of MGMT and Phoenix, which can easily fit into Indie, Synth and Pop genres. I'll keep my radar, they're awesome.

They signed the deal to East City Records in March 2010 the label announced. With a few free tracks easily available to download and stream, such as 'Red Shoes' and 'Charlie' they are certainly going into the summer with festivals in mind then maybe... just maybe a album for the new year?

They have already been to SXSW in Austin Texas and they have seemed to accumulate some stateside fans!

Here are just a few comments from various websites.

"I'm playing the song for last 2 hours and not even bored. I'll keep my radar, they're awesome."

"Love the bears!"

"Cool vid and catchy tune!"

"minted tune :) deffo a song for the Ipod!! :) <3"

Track of the day... Chapel Club - Five Trees

Again this is track of the day, but the first time since I have been using facebook.

Chapel Club release their second single 'Five Trees' on May 31st. Having recently signed to A&M Records, 'Five Trees' is the first fruit of this newly consummated relationship whilst also being the first recorded output from the band's recent studio sortie with producer Paul Epworth.

'Five Trees' has been aired at live shows this year and emerges from the studio a different beast shifting the axis of comparisons whilst continuing the band's beguiling knack of creating compelling impressive songs from a songbook on it's first page.

Track of the day... Blood Red Shoes - Don't Ask

The new single from Steven and Laura-Mary, aka Blood Red Shoes, 'Don't Ask', will be out on 10 May in limited edition 7" vinyl and for download. A three-minute burst of anarchic brittle energy, that's driven by a relentless hammering of the skins, Blood Red Shoes' 'Don't Ask' rampages through the ragged channels of alternative rock, whilst also being shaped by a melodic sensibility.

'Don't Ask' is raw and heavy, exactly like their astonishing album. Musically it's a back to basics, but thrillingly so. Its DIY spirit and raw production, all recorded on analogue at Liverpool studio The Motor Museum. 'Don't Ask' represents a band at the peak of their powers, making pure, perfectly distilled rock music, with subtle dynamics and scorching guitars.
