Minnesota indie four-piece have revealed the official video for energetic, lighthearted track 'Violet'. Directed by Connor Gilhooly, this clip is a vibrant affair, with each band member dressed in and representing a different colour. The footage is also rather symbolic, with a tangible colourful object also reflecting the emotions of each band member. The track itself is radiant, embellished with tuneful rhythmical patterns as well as melodic choruses, one will not be able to stop foot-tapping along to the song.
'Violet' is taken from the South EP which is available now. Currently, Hippo Campus are touring numerous states in the United States, however, they will be visiting the UK in February 2016 supporting Little Comets on their tour. Meanwhile, check out the awesome video below!

Gig Review... Little Comets @ Electric Ballroom, London, 20th February 2014
In an industry where artists are continually complicating song structures and rhythms to be unique and stand out from the masses, Little Comets prove that simplicity and a refreshed take on old fashioned genres (in this case, indie) can be just as effective. The Geordie four-piece have been planted duly just outside the big time for a while now, with albums In Search Of Elusive Little Comets and Life Is Elsewhere becoming a staple part of many young music lovers arsenal. The previously described “kitchen-sink indie” band have gained a large and loyal fan base over the years – apparent by the many screeching young teens at the Electric Ballroom in Camden.
Misprinted names (my name is not Mayor) halted entry into the venue; meaning I was unable to catch Bwani Junction open the night – but in true journalistic fashion, I asked a reveller who described their set as “super rad”. Next up were Cattlefish & The Bottlemen, who sped through a nippy setlist including ‘Rango’ and ‘Homesick’, only breaking between songs to comment on a young man’s afro and to chat up some rather ardent girls. Collapsing supporters, incorrect first aid and overpriced Red Stripe (£4.20, seriously?) did not distract as Little Comets walked on stage. They wowed London with their intricate guitar riffs, energetic grooves and anthem-like choruses. The performance itself is your routine Little Comets gig: simple, mostly easy-going, with a hint of blissful audience interaction. The presentation was simple yet effective too, proving that the band’s music is enough to explain the sell-out show and no stunts or gimmicks are required. The overall effect made it feel a lot more intimate than apparently possible in the large venue.
Opening with ‘A Little Opus’ set the tone of the gig as the Geordie four-piece worked their way through harmonious, sweet sounding indie via the practice of fiddling guitars and cooing backing vocals. Although not as punchy and calypso-esque live as on record, the equalization of the song (and the rest of the gig) was impressive with the vocals being supported gently by the guitars and background percussion without any fight for audio dominance. ‘Violence Out Tonight’ and ‘Waiting In The Shadows In The Dead Of Night’ incidentally explore rape and break-up but perfectly fit in with the popular indie anthems that most of the young crowd have come accustomed to – most likely down to the subtle boost given to the bass and drums helping the drop beats compete with the hard-hitting lyrics. ‘Little Italy’ and ‘Tense/Empty’ showcased the band’s developing maturity (much different to the last time I saw them) by adding a new, smooth dimension to their characteristically pulsating shows. Of course the youthful, notable classic ‘One Night In October’ got the biggest reaction of the night as it moved the crowd from front to back, side to side, and up and down; during which a ‘mosh pit’ (I wouldn’t count it as one) broke out – a sad common occurrence with young crowds.

The band continued the indie disco fodder mid-section by running through the intro of ‘Bridge Burn’ before mixing it straight into ‘W-O-E’ and then ‘Isles’. Lead singer Robert Coles’ voice, being an absorbing tone, reached all methods of high notes and cut through the noise of the beer-sipping audience with unnerved poise. The slower paced ‘The Blur, The Line And The Thickest Of Onions’ showcased the emerging maturity of the quartet as Robert urged the crowd into an eerie silence on the keyboard side of stage. Another piece from their outstanding new EP The Gentle, ‘Coalition Of One’ lead to an acoustic driven calmness – made tenderly personal by the band’s explanation of their new stuff as “the opportunity for us [Little Comets] to explore what we actually feel”.
The impressive beat to ‘The Western Boy’, and the atmospheric drum and vocal combination in ‘In Blue Music We Trust’ worked exceptionally live; while ‘Joanna’ and ‘Dancing Song’ got the seal of approval from the large crowd - of which, the latter two summoned hysteria from the before-mentioned energetic youngsters. The raucous ending is followed by an obvious encore of two of the band’s most loved tunes from In Search Of Elusive Little Comets. ‘Mathilda’ was as chorale as ever; while ‘Adultery’ demonstrated the reason why we all fell in love with indie in the first place, by playing it simple, rooting the heritages and giving us the perfect excuse to dance without having a care in the world.

Album Review... Little Comets - Life Is Elsewhere
I hardly ever buy albums from HMV anymore but I’ve still found myself buying the last two Little Comets albums in the weeks of their releases. Their first effort ‘In Search of Elusive’ was a spark of indie basics. They lit a brewed up hype with performances in unorthodox venues, releasing singles like ‘One Night In October’ and the ever so realistic ‘Isles’ but came to the widened public eye when ‘Dancing Song’ was featured on a Radox advert this year.
So here they are in 2012 with a new record collection filled with Paul Simon’s Graceland, Vampire Weekend’s discography, The Maccabees’ Given To The Wild and the healthy addition of reverb and British realism. Their opener ‘A Little Opus’ is one of the strongest songs on the album, they maintain the foundations of their primarily indie genre with catchy hooks and a usual structure, but add quirky syncopation, short verb claps and a recurring guitar line which quite clearly premieres the new mature Little Comets. Lead singles ‘Jennifer’ and ‘Worry’ help to push the album a long, with jangly upbeat riffs and staccato rhythms topped with the emotive range of singer Robert Coles. The problem I find with afro-pop is the repetition in themes. I find the same vocal hooks repeatedly used, as well as similar chord progressions. Nevertheless, Little Comets interpret it to their own degree.
The style of this album is not exactly innovative because a lot of this has been done before, but what is innovative is the way they craft and make the style their own, mainly spurred on through the down to earth lyrics; ‘He wears commitment like a coat of arms’ and ‘Turning nurses into wine, your barbour jacket, missing dimple beautifully combine’. The overall feel is still an indie/alternative effort but with prime shimmers of the modern touch. The album is ridiculously underrated, receiving little to no press while nearly every music magazine is still banging on about the prices of Rolling Stones tickets. ‘Life Is Elsewhere’ is a tribute to the underdog, narrating stories of love and heartbreak; ‘’so he offers her his coat in return for her devotion’’ on Violence Out Tonight. The wispy reverb adds to the depth of these emotions of the efficiently used ambience. The crafting of this album is superb and cuts above the bland whiney bands hyped in the indie music scene.
Now after completing a successful tour, selling out London KOKO, the band look forward to what I hope will be a successful future.

Friday's Finest
It’s Friday (well Saturday now...), and ourselves and Slate The Disco have gone for a sunny theme to this week’s Friday’s Finest!

Slate The Disco: Civil Love – ‘Teenage Love’
It doesn’t get much sunnier than the charming indie pop of Civil Love. Civil love are a four piece band based in Peckham, drawing members from around the world they give a diverse and unique sound firmly rooted in sunshine and melody. Defined by humble yet powerful vocals and chiming guitars ‘Teenage Love’ is our pick of their new EP.
It’s All Indie: Peace – ‘Li’l Echo’
After getting the 7″ of their latest single in the post yesterday I’ve been playing ‘Li’l Echo’ constantly! The track was recorded in Red Bull Studios and once again, this is a track that really stands out from all of the others Peace have recorded. They change the style of their songs yet always manage to keep the imagination of the listener.
Slate The Disco: Little Comets – ‘Jennifer’
Following their acclaimed ‘Worry’ EP released in December, Little Comets are set to return to the fold next month with vibrant new single ‘Jennifer’, released on June 11th. Filled with twiddly guitar bits and high vocals, it’s another blissful indie summer piece.
It's All Indie: Get People – ‘Something Better’
Get People’s new EP entitled ‘Harmonize’ is out next month, it’s being released on tastemaker label Luv Luv Luv Records and they’re currently streaming their new single ‘Something Better’ which you can listen to below!
Unanimous: Morning Parade - Gold On The Ceiling
With their album coming out in the USA soon three of the band have been out in the States playing some acoustic songs, and they had the time to cover this beaut!

News: Little Comets unveil two new tracks from their EP
Little Comets made their mark at the start of this year with the release of their brilliant début album 'In Search of Elusive Little Comets', making them one of the most exciting new bands to come out of the North East in the last 18 months. These Geordie mavericks have wasted no time delivering their new single 'Worry', taken from an upcoming EP due for release through Dirty Hit on December 12th.

'Worry' brings with it the Little Comets' trademark afro-beat swagger; a highly contagious and beautifully unconventional chorus hook, with their usual carefully constructed poetic lyrics, sung with both power and perfection in equal doses. It all comes together to make a heartfelt lament to take the Indie clubs by storm. The EP follows a triumphant 18 months, which has seen the band release their début album on Dirty Hit last January to critical acclaim and reach a very respectable No.6 on the UK Independent Chart. You can hear the latest two tracks from their highly anticipated EP just below, they are 'Worry' and 'His Thunder'. 'Worry ' reminds me of their early demos, thankfully, I do have their Demo CD so I know this! It sounds so up-beat and bouncy, and 'His Thunder' is more of a turn towards Folk, the acoustic guitars and added strings sound amazing with their vocals on top of them!

Single Review... Little Comets - Joanna
Little Comets are a lovely band from Newcastle, I first saw them play live supporting Delphic in March of this year, I bought their demo CD and loved it! Now one of those songs is 'Joanna', the only difference between the demo and the new version is the production. But still the song is absolutely fantastic! Think of them as perfect support to Vampire Weekend as their musical style has been likened to Vampire Weekend, and you can see why! I just love this upbeat song as it gives you hope in this otherwise droll country we live in, but hey, Christmas is round the corner and this is certainly perking me up!

So the new single ‘Joanna’ is set be released on the 17th January 2011 and they’ve released the video today along with an incredible alternative version they’ve called ‘Joannacapella’ The single was premièred on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show last week and precedes the bands enigmatically titled début album ‘In Search Of Elusive Little Comets’ which will be released on January 31st 2010. Track of the day... Little Comets - One Night In October
Little Comets, straight out of Newcastle. With their glorious yelps, full band, and indie rock sound, I feel myself washing away the days of sad quiet folk and dancing my way into new love for England’s answer to Vampire Weekend.

They are another in a long ling of bands bringing a high degree of energy and polish to not only their recorded material, but stage show while still incorporating the witty vocal banter indicating their youth and whimsy.
