[LISTEN] Glaciers - Vivid

Glaciers today have revealed their debut track, "Vivid", and it's a great track for them to launch themselves off. The opening 15 seconds or so sounds like the intro to Feeder's "Feeling A Moment", but that's where any similarity ends. The track is laced with fuzz, a dark-surf sound blended with hints of shoegaze.

The track is certainly one that stands out, not bad for a début track to be honest - so head on down and stream "Vivid" now - you know you wanna!

[LISTEN] Blossoms - Charlemagne

Blossoms have revealed a brand new track in the shape of "Charlemange", recorded at Parr St studios, they once again team up with producers James Skelly and Rich Turvey, and he beguiling track is lead by catchy synths with an unforgettable bass line complimented by Tom Ogden's vocals - making "Charlemagne" arguably the band’s best track yet. Listen out for the "hello hello" part of the song, reminds you of a certain Kurt Cobain?

Kid Wave reveal "I'm Trying to Break Your Heart" video

The band are about to set off on tour with The Vaccines, but before that they've dropped the video for their track "I'm Trying to Break Your Heart", which is lifted from their début album "Wonderlust". The clip was directed by James Greenall and Chris Parton, and sees two young 20-something's enjoying their live beside the seaside.

The single is released on 23rd October via Heavenly Recordings, you can watch the video below.

[DAILY DOWNLOAD] Pure Morning - Stirling

Today we came across a lovely surf-pop track laden with shoegaze riffs, echoing and distorted vocals and a really anthematic guitar tone. Maybe it's a love song to Man City's new transfer singing, maybe it's cigarettes, but all we know is that it's a rush of pure Indie-pop, wrapped up and ready for the sun!

[LISTEN] SEALINGS - White Devil

If a fuzzed-out slab of lo-fi and feedback drenched garage rock is what you want, then SEALINGS (yet another great Brighton based band) have got it for you. 'White Devil' is a no nonsense  tune, and if you close your eyes you can almost smell the beer/sweat of your grimy local pub-cum-gig venue, which is by all accounts an awful place, but still somehow your first port of call in discovering great new bands. To that end, if you ever get the chance to catch SEALINGS I'd imagine it would be similar to the riotous early shows the likes of the Fat White Family or Bloody Knees put on.

October Drift Announce Second Single

October Drift have announced their second single, You Are You Are, due out on May 18th.

Despite the single only being their second, the four-piece have managed to cause quite a stir with most of their tour tickets being sold through word of mouth alone and their debut doing a lot of the talking - resulting in the tour selling out. Now, You Are You Are, is ready to pick things up with a larger sound.

Taking influence from psychedelic movements, lo-fi riffs and distorted vocals, their knowledge and inspiration from others has all come together in a track which draws comparisons to Radiohead, Joy Division and so many more influential musicians. Their sound is almost industrial in this with ear-pricking moments that urge you to pay attention. 

You Are You Are is available through self-release on May 18th and is also available for pre-order here, where you receive handmade CD packs. The band are also going on tour around the release of the single and you can catch them on the following dates:

Pity Sex announce first ever UK tour

Band names these days are getting more and more silly, but the brilliantly named Pity Sex have announced their first ever UK tour for this May! Beginning with a stint at Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival, the run will see Guildford, London, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Cardiff treated to their fuzzed out and effortlessly catchy take on shoegaze and 90s guitar-pop.

The American based band GRMLN have revealed a rather sweet cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time". The band are currently gearing up for their new album "Soon Away", it's out September 15th via Carpark records.

Track of the week... The Away Days - Paris

The Away Days are aiming to create big waves in other territories, with praise from the likes of Guardian, SPIN, NME and NPR as well as plays from BBC 6Music and XFM. As well as in their own native land Turkey. The band earlier this year released "Your Colour", which we loved, but now they've gone one better with "Paris".

They've taken Shoegazing one more step and have combined it with their own unique sound, a lovely guitar riff opens the song before more give way and the party starts! When the vocals hit you can't help but think this is a song off Foals latest album, the structure of the song and the rhythms are up there with the very best! With the song peaking towards the end, getting heavier and heavier it stops with a wash of guitar noise.

No wonder the band are being rated as one of the brightest new acts in the world, with tracks like this and their other single "Your Colour", we're expecting them to be signed VERY soon!

We're celebrating our new 'Genre Search' today, and with the new section due for it's official launch next week (when we will be tagging ALL posts with genres to make it easy for you to find music you love) we're celebrating every 'Genre' we post about.

Shoegazing (also known as shoegaze) is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s by bands such as Lush, Slowdive and Ride. New bands making noise under this genre now include The Away Days, You The Living and Youthblood. The genre is known to include Noise-Rock and Nu-Gaze too.

Gig Review... The Soft @ Portland Arms, Cambridge, 1st March 2012

The Suffolk trio open up the show tonight against a projector backdrop of looping images that run parallel to The Soft’s music. They open with ‘Hot Summer’, the first track of the EP of the same name, sounding larger, and more fulfilling live. The extended version of this track soon fades into ‘Venus Breath’, reverb samples and the lead singer’s droning voice ‘the weight of this world…’ gliding into throbbing electronica. ‘Tropisms’ sounds equally triumphant tonight, given an extra kick live. The short support slot is enough to show how much they’ve progressed as a band since September when I saw them support Big Deal. Before they showed promise but the songs couldn’t quite fill the space, but now the sound is panoramic and the way is paved for The Soft to really go somewhere.

Patten showcases a very different brand of dance music to that of The Soft, where they are an ethereal, slow-burning beauty, Patten is upbeat and the beats and bass shift, just one man at the helm. When you take away all the internet mystique, Patten’s music is what matters. Barely audible vocoder vocals echo over sampling and thrusts of bass. The songs warp into each other, leaving chasms of hypnotic, trance-like dance music to float around the Portland Arms uninterrupted. Tonight is electronic music at it’s finest.

'Save The Sharks' will be his 2nd EP, after being blown away by his first EP this one is more in the Dream-Pop genre, but we still love it none the less. Introducing... Keith Canisius

Keith Canisius is a solo artist from Copenhagen in Denmark. He blends electronic, dream pop, shoegaze and ambient sounds to produce his own genre! He currently has an EP out, which you can stream at the bottom of the page, and with another one coming out soon he seems to be a master at making great tracks to fall in love with.



The first track off his EP is the one I like the most, it's a Electro-Dream-Pop gem amongst a vast amount of other outstanding tracks on his page. With him being based in Copenhagen he has a few shows already announced in the city so go and check him out if you're a Dane, you'll be spellbound by the end of the night!

Introducing... Ivory Seas

This year brings a whole host of fresh talent, and this band has got it all! They are a four piece based in London and they sound like the perfect balance of Wild Beasts and Chapel Club. Post-Punk Revival with a hint of Shoegaze for good measure. One of their first shows is playing the Artrocker/POPULAR Festival on the 12th Jan with The History Of Apple Pie and Young*Husband.



They only have one track finished at the moment and it's called 'Boundary' and this song has a pulsing bass in the background and guitars tingling away in the foreground. This is yet another track to fall in love with, as I am sure this band will eventually spawn into something bigger. They've even got Wild Beasts producer 'Richard Formby' to produce their track for them, with more songs in the pipeline!

Gig Review... Wild Beasts @ The Junction, Cambridge, 25th November 2011

I was so looking forward to seeing Wild Beasts live, purely because this would be the 4th time seeing the Kendal based band play. After seeing them support The Temper Trap and White Lies within the space of 4 days in 2009 and seeing them playing to a half filled gig at The Troxy in East London it was a present surprise to see the place filled with such a diverse fan-base, from the typical screaming girls in the front row, to the distinguished old gentlemen and his wife towards the back.

They opened the show with an instrumental of 'Burning' playing away, then they all appeared on stage to a mass of cheers and hand-claps. 'Lion's Share' and 'Bed Of Nails' were the first two songs they played fully, and with an additional member providing the samples to create a more in-depth sound. They seem to be lapping up the warmth they received from the crowd and that really did show when they played 'Albatross', the track was longer than usual, but the additional 15 to 20 seconds on the last part of the chorus won me over. One of only two songs to survive from the 'Limbo, Panto' era was next, 'Devils Crayon' still has me in awe even to this day and it's a nice step back in time to when they played to barely anyone - and as Tom Fleming put it " we also played here to about 20 Arab business men in Cambridge". The first track off their Mercury Prize nominate 2nd album was next and I still don't know why to this day they have never won the accolade! 'Two Dancers (I)' was the song I sung the most of, purely because of the very dark and sexual lyrics? Maybe, but also because of the atmosphere when the first few notes were played, the place was buzzing! They've just performed one of the best sets I've ever seen, and then they came back to an encore that I've never seen before. The last three tracks were not a shade under magnificent and the last track 'The End Has Come Too Soon' was very apt, the 7:33 long track ending what has been a fantastic night to be a fan of great British music!

Gig Review... Other Lives @ Shepherds Bush, London, 18th October 2011

Other Lives were the second band on that night - just before Chapel Club came on-, so they had a very decent crowd to play to. And my gosh were the crowd treated to an array of tracks. They are an American band currently on a tour of Europe, and it seems like it's all going well!



They opened their set with 'As I Lay My Head Down' and 'Old Statues' and it was met with the crowd clapping, not just any old clapping, you could hear that the crowd were elated too with jeers and whistling. They didn't play that many songs considering they were the main support act, but the songs were big and beautiful, besides, it's quality not quantity right! I made sure I picked up their album after the show as I thought their performance was so good I thought to pick up some of their merchandise. They played the fine balance of Folk and Shoegaze (in my opinion). If you are in London on the 21st of November later on this year and are free, you can see them for yourselves at St. Giles Church.

Gig Review... Elephant @ Shepherds Bush, London, 18th October 2011

Elephant are Amelia Rivas and Christian Pinchbeck. A conclusion that songwriting and documentation should only be accomplished by the turn of night, and should never leave comfort and safety of the bedroom. One thing I love about going to see a great band is that sometimes you strike it lucky with the support acts, and the opening act tonight was no exception. The band in question is Elephant, a young two piece band based in the capital, they play as a 3 piece live due to lots of layers in their songs. They had a very minimal approach when I first heard them on the internet, think of a British version of Active Child!



But they proved to be much better than anticipated, with the airy vocals of Amelia, and a welcomed guitar riff ticking away in the background supplied by Christian, from the first song I was in the mood for this kind of sound, relaxed and chilled. The sample pads and synths played by the third member were caressing the lyrics coming from the vocalists lungs. I made sure I picked up their EP - considering it's not officially out yet, but they had it on sale -, and it really is worth the listen, I played it on the way back home, it was a great performance and I'd love to see them again, hopefully very soon!

Gig Review... Chapel Club @ Shepherds Bush, London, 18th October 2011

Chapel Club are slowly becoming the next band from London that will then go on and dominate the European music scene - the last being White Lies. Tonight was a special occasion, the band were playing two sets, one of brand new tracks. Lewis (Singer) said "Please bear with us, some of these songs were only written a few weeks ago", and one of 'old' tracks from their début album 'Palace'.

So their new songs were first out of the blocks, but the first track was kept all minimal and used lots of synths with the bass guitar only being used at the end of the song. They then went on to play some tracks that lived up to the billing of Dance songs. Lewis last month (September) said "the second album will be full of songs to dance to", and they sure did. The crowd wasn't dancing along, more to the shock Chapel Club - a band that is known for it's poetic lyrics, gentle riffs and smooth playing - were playing tracks that had a fast tempo to it. They were more in awe of the songs, and from my point of view, I loved the new tracks, reminded me of when Bloc Party played new songs live before they put out 'A Weekend In The City', and look how they turned out, bigger than ever!



The second half of the set was greeted with raptures applause as they burst into the second half of the set with 'Surfacing', grabbing the crowd from the off and cementing their position on stage, the lads went on to play crowd pleasers such as 'All The Eastern Girls', 'Five Trees' and a new track - which Lewis mentioned on the night won't be on the album - 'Waterlight Park'. They closed the set on the great track 'The Shore' giving their fans something to think about... Chapel Club, you are going to get even bigger!
