Yawning Dog unveil 'I've Only Got One Ghost'

   Fresh off their set at Long Division festival headlined by none other than The Cribs, the Yawning Dog boys have released their track 'I've Only Got One Ghost', an eery Pixies-esque song which boasts punchy drums and a solid bass line supporting guitar drones and crunchy feedback layers.

  Yawning Dog consist of Sam Womersley, Joe Prochera, Daniel Wearmouth and Ryan Laws. Hailing from the small northern town of Hemsworth, the boys are constantly releasing fresh new tracks so make sure to keep those eyes peeled when you see a next grunge nugget appear from the group.

  Next month Yawning Dog are releasing a double A side entitled 'Doll/Torso Dojo. The release will be on October 13th. This will coincide with a single launch on the 16th at Parish, Huddersfield. Make sure you get yourselves to it if you're in the area!

Yawning Dog unveil 'Sugar/Jar'

Straight outta Hemsworth comes the self-proclaimed 'tightly packed quartet of orchestrated noise monkeys' or in other words - Yawning Dog, a band taking on a new take on grunge; complete with droney reverb riffs, fuzzy rhythm guitars and a storming entry of drums, bass and vocals.

Even though the band have only recently come to life, IAI wrote about the band when releasing their self-produced 'Nothing To Say / Drift' which received many positive reviews. The band consists of Sam Womersley, Ryan Laws, Daniel Wearmouth and Joe Prochera. Now with more and more gigs on the way including Long Division and a load strapped firmly to their belt (including a youth offenders prison), have unveiled their first proper single in the form of the double A-side 'Sugar/Jar'.

'Sugar' is an electric single which perfectly demonstrates what Yawning Dog are all about. The feature of a glockenspiel playing the riff alongside the reverb-drenched guitar riff works perfectly alongside the growly guitars. Both tracks are relatively short in length which really shows the energetic urgency the band represents. Womersley's severely northern voice also almost acts as a signature stamp for the band. The production on the tracks emphasises the punchiness and I'd love to see both songs performed live. 'Jar' is more of an exploration through their destructive sound and works well alongside 'Sugar'.

I'm hoping that the potential these guys currently hold will soon materialise in to an explosion of sound in their next recordings, they've got a lot to offer!

Yawning Dog will play:
30th July - Fenton, Leeds
2nd August - Flannel Fest, Temple of Boom, Leeds
3rd August - Long Division warm up, Castleford
5th August - Parish, Hudderfield
8th August - The Empire, Swadlincote
23rd August - Carpe Diem, Leeds

Submission... Unsigned Acts I

After posting on the It's All Indie Facebook page asking artists to submit their work to my e-mail address, the immediate response was incredible! I've come across some brilliant bands and found some real talents but have had to narrow down my favourites to just five. As I found this time round to be such a success I will be asking bands to submit more later throughout the year! These are the five I've picked for your listening pleasures;

Neue York
This mysterious London three piece have been hyped up such magazines as NME and This Is DIY with their luxury brand of dark electronic night time music. Chilled slow tempo beats back up synth bass drones and angelic harmonies in their track 'Silence' with distant reverbs and rich guitars whilst comparisons to that of The XX and Portishead aren't too far round the corner in 'Older'.

Yawning Dog
Hailing from the small town of Hemsworth in West Yorkshire, trio Sam Womersley, Joe Prochera and Ryan Laws combine to make the energy-fuelled 'Yawning Dog'. The self-produced band have been compared to the likes of The Pixies and Queens of the Stone Age with their raw stripped back approach with enough power to grab anyone's attention. With Womersley letting loose vocally on 'Nothing To Say' whilst relaxing on the eery but chilled 'Drift', every listen displays more intricacy and detail. Their debut release 'Nothing To Say/Drift' is out now for free and I recommend you all to download it!

Affairs
Affairs are a sharp, slick 80s inspired outfit from Hull full of tight staccato rhythms and vocals similar to that of Ian Curtis and Tom Smith of Editors. Kitted out in denim jackets and top buttoned shirts, the band met at the much beloved Whipsnade Zoo and since then have gone on to support such bands as Alt-J, The 1975 and The Family Rain to name a few. Their music is instantly likeable and full of wit handled with great finesse. Check out the romantic 80s fuelled 'Contact' and if you like that check their sound cloud out including my personal favourite 'Elephant'.

Lovats
Lovats are one of Birmingham's freshest exports full of luscious indie pop anthems. Their music I could most compare to a love child of Two Door Cinema Club and Don Broco. Already hyped by music blogs and radio stations, their music is texturally rich and definitely the type perfect to pack out festival tents and send drunk punters leaving chanting choruses at the top of their lungs. Their latest track 'White Fire' is a perfect example of what I'm talking about! Have a listen now;

JUBA
One of my favourite submissions I received was that of the band 'Juba'. Hailing from Portugal, João, Joel, Miguel and Tomás create a 'cosmic wave of oriental mysticism' with their psychedelic conceptual debut album 'Mynah'. I'm really impressed with this summery indie surf alternative offering and recommend you give these guys a listen.
