Bloc Party are back in the studio
Bloc Party are back in the studio everyone, with their latest album "Hymns" already out, it looks like the itch to record needs to be scratched. The band are well known to release a 'filler' song between albums - as shown below.
This will also be the first time that their new drummer - Louise Bartle - would be a fully fledged member of the band as they hired a session drummer for "Hymns", one thing is promising though, they are using their guitars, so could be yet another 'edgy' number!
KEY // Bold = Album / Italic = Filler single
"Silent Alarm"
"Two More Years"
"A Weekend In The City"
"Flux"
"Intimacy"
"One More Chance"
"Four"
"The Nextwave Sessions" (an EP)
"Hymns"
Also - below is Louise and Russell practising "I Still Remember".

Bloc Party unveil video for "Virtue"
London based Bloc Party are somewhat of a veteran of the Dance-Rock genre now, and since the release of their fifth album "Hymns" they've gone onto prove that even after a line-up change that they're still a band to be reckoned with!
Below is the video for their latest single "Virtue", which is one of the more upbeat tracks on their latest LP. "Hymns" is out now.

[LISTEN] Bloc Party - The God Vibration
No it's not a mis-spelling of "Good Vibration", but it's the last song off their latest album "Hymns", and it's taken a while to find! This is only found on the 12" version of their album and doesn't come on until the record has been spinning quiet for 30 seconds.
The track was composed by Russell - much like the instrumental track off "Silent Alarm" which is called "Every Time Is The Last Time". So here's a rip off the record player for you all to enjoy.

[LISTEN] Bloc Party - The Love Within (Crookers Remix)
There's not a lot of official remixes since Bloc Party's latest album "Hymns" has come out, but this one from Crookers has surfaced. Here they've taken Bloc's 'comeback-single' "The Love Within" and have turned it from a radio friendly dance-rock number to a dark and electronic track that borderline's house music. Certainly it's given it an alternative feel, and some fans are saying that they prefer it.
Different is always good, so why not head on down to listen to it.

Bloc Party cover David Bowie's "Heroes" in Paris
Just when you thought Bloc Party were 'not a guitar band' anymore they only go and pull this cover out of the bag, and it's their first full cover since their rendition of Girls Aloud's "Call The Shots" back in 2009!
Anyway, Bloc Party covering David Bowie, can't get any better than that - I'm done, I'll be here gazing into the night, it's amazing!!!

[ALBUM REVIEW] Bloc Party - Hymns
It would be safe to say that Bloc Party are one of my favourite bands of the past 10 years, so if this review seems a little bias then I'm sorry! The story of how this album starts way back when Bloc Party MK1 (the original Bloc line up with Matt and Gordon) ended during the period between their biggest headline date at Earls Court in London and Latitude Festival in late 2013. Matt had already left the band and Hot Chip's drummer was a short-term replacement, and in mid 2015 Gordon announced he left the band to focus on other projects. SO what of it? Well this left Kele and Russell, the FOUNDING two members of the project that we call Bloc Party, and after meeting way back in 1999 at Reading Festival their relationship was as strong as ever.
They moved forwards into the latter half of 2015 with optimism, Kele stunned Bloc Party fans by performing a new song called "Exes" on Triple J by himself then he announced that a fifth record was in progress, and as you'll about to find out, this has been a breath of fresh air for Bloc Party MKII.
The album opens with the dance-rock track "The Love Within", with screaming and torched guitar sounds the track initially wasn't one I was a fan of, but this is Kele and Russell let loose and it could herald a start of what's to come, apart from the fact that this might be the fasted song on the whole LP. As we move into "Only He Can Heal Me" it's laden with licks on piano, some lovely guitar tones in the latter third of the track, it really takes you back to their second album in ways.
"So Real" sees Kele take up a new instrument, the keyboard and piano, it's a slow track with a big focus on Kele's new ivory plaything, with some brooding bass-lines and a catchy chorus this cut seems like it's destined for those late night trips home after a bender, keep an eye out for Russell's solo around the 3 minute mark, it's nothing spectacular but I'm just pointing out to those fans who dig at Bloc Party for not having guitars in their songs any more, it's there! As proven with the following track, "The Good News" which features a choir as well as some bluesy guitar riffs.
As we move into the second half of the LP we hear a stripped back synthy track called "Fortress", it sounds like "Montreal" if it was written with Keles solo work in mind, this has a massive whiff of a Kele solo track about it, unlike what's up next, maybe the best track on the whole album, and possibly the best track they've released for the past 5 years. "Different Drugs" really reminds me of "Signs" meets "Ion Square", it's an epic track, both in sound and length. It's sonic synths and reverb laden guitars provided by Russell give it a massive presence and as soon as the bass hits it's brimming with noise. The build-up is simply to die for, just give this a listen first if you're a bit sceptical about the album.
The next two tracks, "Into the Earth" and "My True Name" sounds like they were written a few years back as they sound like they'd fit perfectly into their last LP, "Four". They both feature the guitar (once again) as the prominent instrument and showcases a gentler side of the band, showing that they're growing up and are taking things slowly. Where as "Into the Earth" is a gentle song, "My True Name" has a dark bite to it, one thing is for sure, the production on this album is stunning, just turn up the volume on this one and take it all in!
As we're at the end of the LP next the band decide to throw in a curve ball, as you start to think it's all relaxed you have "Virtue" to listen to first, if anything the next single as this seems to be written for Radio 1 and Radio X, it's got a very big dance-vibe going on and seems to be yearning for a big remix, Kele's solo is much to be desired but all in all Russell's interesting guitar pedals give it more body and an extra angle.
"Exes" and "Living Lux" are the last two songs on the standard version of the album, and what a way to end, as you might know, "Exes" is widely regarded as a fan favourite now after Kele performed an acoustic version back in 2015 and the full band version more than lives to my expectations, apart from the weird guitar slide around the three minute mark this track has set the bar high for any future Bloc Party ballad. And as we end the latest Bloc Party album we part with a track that sums up Bloc Party MKII in a great way, synths, uplifting vocals and a mighty guitar. It builds and builds, and ends with just the echoing of Russell's guitar.
Bloc Party have really hit the nail on the head here, it's a progression that had to be done, every band does this but while to some this isn't 'Bloc Party' it certainly is. They always like to be different album to album and with the new members on board now they've got a bigger pool of influences to choose from. After the rocky "Four" LP this is a lovely turn, and after listening to it for the past week I've come to love it and accept this as a genuinely brilliant album, and like I said at the beginning... I'm not bias.

[LISTEN] Bloc Party - Virtue
Bloc Party have revealed their latest track to be taken off their forthcoming album, "Hymns". "Virtue" is a track that would suit anyone who loves "Intimacy" and Kele's solo work. The track's got a distinctive synth, well that's what you think at first but what it is Russell and his guitar with a shed load of effects. With a wash of electronics over the guitars in the chorus it is certainly a track with a lot going for it.

Here's a reason to love Bloc Party
Perth in Western Australia has been hit by some terrible bushfires as of late, and Southbound Festival has had to cancel it's 2016 event. Now while someone has pointed out to me that most bands have taken the time off and have effectively had a 'holiday/vacation', Bloc Party are playing a benefit show for the affected area.

[LISTEN] Bloc Party - The Good News
What would you say to Bloc Party's latest album, well if you heard their comeback track "The Love Within" you might be thinking it's just a 'Kele album with Russell playing guitars' kinda deal. Well this new track - "The Good News" - brings back some sounds you might've herad on their last effort "Four".
You can easily hear Kele's gospel influence here with the backing vocals, twanging guitars and his words of wisdom. It's got a lot more soulful, that's one thing for sure. You can listen to it below.
Read our interview with Russell Lissack here. "HYMNS" is out January 29 via Infectious Music/BMG/Vagrant.

[INTERVIEW] with Russell Lissack of Bloc Party
With Bloc Party's new album out in early 2016, a short European and UK tour scheduled for the end of 2015, and headlining NME's Awards Tour 2016 too, the band are back and have some new members too.
As you may already know, we've interviewed Russell Lissack before, and here's our latest chat. Please do 'share' the post as much as you can, this one's a good'un!
You've been around as a band before the big social media boom, do you think in the current climate that it's harder for a band to break out than it was say back in the early 00's?
After Matt and Gordon, did you ever consider leaving Bloc Party?
Does the new band still feel like Bloc Party to you (like The Cure is always The Cure), or is it a new vehicle with the same name (ala Smashing Pumpkins) ?
The BOSE interview about Banquet that was published on-line was insightful. If you had the opportunity to reveal the story behind any other Bloc Party song - what would that song be, and why?
Has fatherhood changed the way you feel about making music?
We saw you upload a photo of 'The Angel Range' CD, fans are always going to ask this but are we ever going to hear them?
How do you find inspiration when writing new music?
Are we ever going to see a reunion of Pin Me Down?
Back to the new music, the album features a whopping 15 new tracks, I know on the first two albums you guys had loads of b-sides, is there even more music to come on the singles too?
We're all about new music here and promoting exciting new sounds, but what new bands have you been currently been listening to?
What can we expect from Bloc Party in 2016? Galstonbury, Reading? (Something even bigger?)
Finally, if you could share a word of wisdom for a new band what would it be?

You've been around as a band before the big social media boom, do you think in the current climate that it's harder for a band to break out than it was say back in the early 00's?
"I imagine it's very difficult now. There are the benefits of being able to easily distribute your music, to get yourselves out there but with that comes the problem of standing out. Previously there were limited outlets of where to discover new music, now there are practically unlimited resources.
And then you have the problem of transience that comes with social media."
After Matt and Gordon, did you ever consider leaving Bloc Party?
"No. I love being in Bloc Party."
Does the new band still feel like Bloc Party to you (like The Cure is always The Cure), or is it a new vehicle with the same name (ala Smashing Pumpkins) ?
"To me it's still Bloc Party. It's always been Kele and I since we met in the 90's. I can understand how it's different for people looking on but obviously my perspective is different. We're still playing the songs we wrote together and we're still writing songs together as we always have."
The BOSE interview about Banquet that was published on-line was insightful. If you had the opportunity to reveal the story behind any other Bloc Party song - what would that song be, and why?
"Oh I don't know.... personally I've never been interested in the story behind a song (by another artist), I just enjoy the song for how I interpret it. I think delving too deep into things takes away the magic and the reason you enjoyed it in the first place."
Has fatherhood changed the way you feel about making music?
"It has changed the way I feel, it's just changed the process in terms of time... it's more of an effect on touring."
We saw you upload a photo of 'The Angel Range' CD, fans are always going to ask this but are we ever going to hear them?
"I don't know. I'd like people to hear them if they want to, i understand why people want to hear them... I felt the same about the bands I loved. I've been trying to compile a collection of "rarities" but ultimately there's a lot of other people involved in approving something like that."
How do you find inspiration when writing new music?
"The same as I always have, everywhere. New music, film soundtracks, video games, in my head. Personally I've always been more interested in creating new sounds, it's a never ending quest."
Are we ever going to see a reunion of Pin Me Down?
"Milena lives in LA and works in television now so I don't think so."
Back to the new music, the album features a whopping 15 new tracks, I know on the first two albums you guys had loads of b-sides, is there even more music to come on the singles too?
"The album is actually 11 tracks but there's a deluxe version with an extra 4 tracks. Singles don't really exist any-more sadly."
We're all about new music here and promoting exciting new sounds, but what new bands have you been currently been listening to?
"I love Everything Everything. I suppose they're not technically a new band but they're my favourite guitar band of the last 5 years. They're the only people i know of doing interesting new things with guitars."

What can we expect from Bloc Party in 2016? Galstonbury, Reading? (Something even bigger?)
"It's a bit early to know what's happening that far ahead yet. I'm looking forward to people hearing the new record next year and getting to play the songs live, that's always my favourite part of the process."
Finally, if you could share a word of wisdom for a new band what would it be?
"Good luck and don't forget to talk to one another."

[LISTEN] Bloc Party - Blue Moon (Demo)
While in my car today, my massive 128GB flash drive threw this track on, it's a demo version of "England" which went on to feature as a b-side on "The Prayer" 7inch vinyl release. The demo shows the raw energy of the band and gives you an insight to what "A Weekend In The City" could've been. Kele said about "Blue Moon" that: "[The album is about] commuting, working, drinking, watching time slip by. It's not a dance punk record, that shit has been done to death. Dance punk will not be a noose around our necks."

[LISTEN] Bloc Party - The Love Within
Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack are back with some new members, Justin on bass and Louise on the drums! Still Bloc Party, and this is still great. Their new song "The Love Within" was premiĂšred on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 tonight (5/10) and it's a song I've been waiting to hear for a long time, ever since the acoustic demo of "Exes" was played out on Triple J.
The song's lifted from their new album "Hymns" which is due out early 2016.
