We've been championing Coasts for a long time now, and today is the day we finally unleash the review of their début EP. A long time coming for me as I've been listening to the band for nearly 3 years now, right from day 1 we've been big fans of theirs.
As we kick off the EP you get to listen to the rather epic opening track "Wallow", it fades from dark and haunting whispers and soundscapes into a guitar quite literally wallowing away, the whole song then gains body, with bass, drum, and more guitar ever building into a climax that just hits you in the face to say, we're here! The chorus just confirms to me that Coasts are destined for great things, easily the best track of the 4 to open on!
Next up is the rather sweet and gentle track "Your Soul", just like the opening track this one also opens with a flurry of guitars and vocals. However this one boasts more of a sing-a-long when it comes to the chorus. Easily the track that can push them ever so closer to getting that commercial appeal, with great guitar hook driving the track forwards this can easily be their next single, it's got everything, attitude, danceability and it's a delight to listen to!
The track that everyone's knowing them by, "Oceans" is the track that the fans went crazy for when the five-piece played London last week. After hitting up over 100,000 views on YouTube alone this is clearly the track that everyone will listen to first when checking them out, and as far as I'm concerned, it's everything they're about. Tropical drums infused with light synths, strong uplifting guitars and lyrics everyone can relate to!
After getting to listen to 3 new tracks we're not done yet, "Stone" is the slowest song on the EP, and closes their first proper release well. The longest track they've done so far it takes it's time opening up but when it does it blossoms, this is a really bright track to listen to when you're down and out. It picks you up and brings you back to life. It ends in a flourish and confirms to everyone that Coasts are here to stay!
I honestly thought when they didn't release anything in 2012 that they might be finished, but after hearing this EP and their demos later on in the year I got pretty excited. Now I'm just incredibly pleased at how they've developed their sound, they're a band on the rise to fame. This EP can easily push them to stardom, a great first release for the five-piece!
