Introducing... Swearin'

Swearin’ are a sparky Philadelphia/Brooklyn based four-piece who chain together rustic tunes incorporating 90s-era indie rock with a DIY punk ethic. The new Wichita Recordings signees are slowly making a name over here in the UK off the release of their second LP – ‘Surfing Strange’. Their self-titled debut drew critical praise from the media for its authentic lyrics and strong hooks; although they claim they simply only recorded it to get back on the road touring. Both albums explore insecurity in the face of ephemerality.

The DIY enthusiasts’ (they even make their own merch) lead singer Allison Crutchfield describes the band as “guitar-driven pop rock ‘n’ roll music” where she is at her best blending feminist politics and personal lows – “typically I writ best when I’m really angry about something”.

The band’s sound is hard to describe in one word, it’s known as a shabby, melodic, guitar-led sound that takes you back to a golden age of lo-fi American indie.

For fans of // The Breeders, Waxahatchee and Pavement
