The first day of the Texas music festival, that spans across not one but two weekends, kicked off it's 12th campaign yesterday. Day 1 saw many triumphant sets from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, Savages and Depeche Mode (who headlined last nights event) but unfortunately also fell victim to a variety of technical problems during Muse's set - forcing the festival to surpass it's curfew for the first night by 20 minutes.
Muse, who released their sixth album the 2nd Law last September and who are also used to wowing audiences with their elaborate stage set up of giant props and over the top pyrotechnics, were forced to somewhat tone down their iconic show due to the confines of the festival. According to www.noise11.com, the band's set closer, 'Starlight', was cut short due to a problem that resulted in the sound system cutting out - however this apparently was just one of many technical problems to occur. The band soon returned though to play fan favourite 'Knights of Cydonia' and drummer Dom Howard thanked the crowd for their patience and understanding - referring to the issues as “bloody PA problems”.
Despite the slight sound issues however, that failed to dampen the spirits of the festival goers, Day 2 promises to be equally as phenomenal in regards to musical talent, with the likes of Haim, Deap Vally and The Weeks all performing throughout the day across the 8 different stages.
The Cure will headline the main stage tonight with a set that is undoubtedly going to be career spanning, whilst Kings Of Leon will be the final band to take to the Samsung Galaxy Stage in light of their latest release 'Mechanical Bull'.
