Single Review... Sophie May - Stop Your Cryin'

'Stop Your Cryin'' is the first track to be unveiled to the public since Sophie's return from the latest series of The Voice but don't let that put you off. Although TV talent shows are quick to judge, Sophie May's style is a lot richer than the norms of expectation with a voice way beyond her years and an inspiration drawn from the culture of the 1960s. This track is a great showcase for what Sophie is capable of.

Produced by Ben Johnston and co-written with Chloe Wood, 'Stop Your Cryin'' is a dark soulful piece, stripped down in minimal layers, perfect for a soundtrack to a film noir movie. A smooth bass line grooves with the drum pattern whilst different guitar parts subtly weave through with phaser effect, leaving her almost-hypnotic voice to reign over the track. Singing themes of loneliness, desperation and romance, Sophie powerfully commands to 'clean out my heart and restore the dark'. You often find that many talent show acts get whisked off and drained of all personality after their time on the show so it seems very refreshing to see the natural beauty of Sophie's voice and style become a priority of her work - something that definitely sets her apart. Although new material is limited, I'm keeping close watch to hear more that she has to offer.

Out of 10: 7.5/10
