‘Only Cowards Carry’ to Celebrate First Anniversary with Charity Concert

Local organisation, ‘Only Cowards Carry’, are setting out to top their previous charity event with a follow up concert that will see an array of fantastic local and national acts perform at the Princes Theatre to mark the year anniversary of the campaign. The team’s last event, which was held at the Westcliff Theatre in June, played host to flocks of dedicated supporters who were treated to a night of live music. However, despite the success of the evening, fundraising events manger Elliot McMillian is on a mission to make this particular concert, that will be hosted by Channel 5’s Rob Lamarr, even better than the last, and is hoping for the local public to make it a sell out show. ‘These kind of events are massive,’ he explained. ‘We aim to put on a good show to give something back to the people for all the support they have shown us and to help spread the word about our charity and what we are out to achieve.’

After launching in October of last year, the charity set out to raise awareness about knife crime after sad news shook the town two months prior, that local Clacton teenager Jay Whiston, had become an unfortunate victim of knife crime. A Facebook page was soon set up in memory of the boy that seemed to only ever make people smile and within hours the page saw thousands rush to ‘like’ it, share their memories, and show their support.

Since then, the organisation has not once lost momentum and has constantly continued to raise awareness of knife crime in Clacton and all over the country. By selling merchandise, opening shops within Clacton and Colchester, raising over £3000 and receiving over 20,000 petition signatures, the charity has gained major news coverage from the likes of the BBC and continues to grow even bigger.

'Only Cowards Carry' put on various different events to help raise awareness

Tony Clarke, who is just one the many great acts in a line up that will also see Leanne Jarvis of The Voice take to the town’s stage, said: ‘It's an absolute honor to be asked to play. Raising awareness is the most important thing for Only Cowards Carry, and what better way to do this than by bringing everyone together for this concert. I can't wait.’

The concert will take place on Friday 29th November in the Town Hall and doors will open at 6.30pm with music from 7pm. Tickets can be bought for £10 from Clacton’s
Town Hall Tourist Information Centre, Key Cutting, Nail Envy, Ye Olde Sweet Shop and the Only Cowards Carry shop down Jackson road.
