[LISTEN] Too Cool Kid - Drained

The enigmatic Cambridge/Manchester based Too Cool Kid return with brooding and sultry new single 'Drained'. Clocking in at under 2 minutes, it's a concise, invigorating and downbeat bluesy groove of a song, punctuated by airy sections of release which showcase lead singer Jay Plent's dynamic vocal range and the band's instrumental dexterity.

Ruminating on the emotional toll an unravelling relationship can have,  the opening lyrics set the scene: "All the breath that your body took from me, I'd suck it in". The emptiness following the destruction of something spiritual that you've put so much energy into creates a physical withdrawal, resulting in a shallowness of breath and weakening of the body. The tightly wound verses juxtaposed against the anthemic choruses neatly represent the ying and yang of self-assured anger versus despair in dealing with the situation.

Whilst Too Cool Kid may hide behind a cartoon when it comes to the visual element, 'Drained' exemplifies a band which is at ease with baring themselves lyrically and thematically, and a band that is growing in confidence and swagger with every release. Listen to 'Drained' below:

Spring King perform "Rectifier" on Later... with Jools Holland

Since I saw Spring King perform in London back in November 2014 they've come a long way, I have their first EP still in my car and it's a belter! The four-piece took to the stage down in London, and performed a track off their forthcoming album "Tell Me If You Like To".

Safe to say their journey has just begun, the hype has started, they're out there ready to get everyone's attention, watch them perform "Rectifier" below.

Bloc Party bring "HYMNS" to Later... with Jools Holland

Bloc Party announced the other day that they'd be playing on Later... with Jools Holland, and the band didn't fail to disappoint. They performed two of their tracks from their latest album "HYMNS", which s out now. They were the albums opener "The Love Within", which actually opened the show, and "Virtue".

You can watch both of those songs being performed below, there's an extended edition of the show this Friday for those in the UK, so expect another tune!

Harry Seaton covers The 1975's "Somebody Else"

Harry Seaton is well known on YouTube for his covers, and here the Kings Lynn local has covered The 1975's "Somebody Else", the original was released on their latest album "I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It".

His vocals, the way he spun in "The Sound" and the whole thing, Harry has produced a great cover, head on down below and watch it.

[LISTEN] WEIRDO - ARMANIO

Berlin based musician going by the name of WEIRDO has dropped a very catchy tune, called "ARMANIO". It's released right in time for a major heatwave all over Europe and is certainly going to be on my summer-jams playlist, I've played this a few thousand times already, it's catchy, funky and utterly delicious!

Speaking to Pigeons and Planes he says - "[The song is] about a girl I know who is lovely and awesome, but has one of these cling-on boyfriends who is just obsessive and insecure—I mean, it’s something that happens a lot for sure and its a shout out to all the awesome people in love with the wrong guy or girl. It’s a fun dancing song I suppose and overall it should be a track to help you get over someone maybe!"

[LISTEN] Mok - Call Carlton

Emotive and multi layered new single 'Call Carlton' from the Brighton alt hip hop band MOK. 'Call Carlton' is the opening track from their debut VP 'The House' which is a multi-track visual of all their newest songs. MOK are a unique band in that everything they do is wholly DIY and 'The House' beautifully demonstrates this. This included the writing, filming, editing, mixing in the house they all share together.

The band explain "Call Carlton sheds light on the darkest parts of living a life of excess"

MOK's live shows are truly amazing, showing a wholly energetic side to them which completely immerses you as the spectator. It literally leaves you wishing you were in their band!
