10 Of The Best Tracks We Heard This Week (Up to 26th April)
In a new weekly feature that will go out on every Saturday, we round up TEN of the best tracks we've heard this week, weather it be tracks we've heard on soundcloud, tracks we've blogged about or simply demos and new tracks we've been sent. In no particular order they are ...
Delphic - Colours Of The Day
It's a part of their new 'Mixtape' called "Get Familiar", which consists of 7 new tracks over the course of 29 minutes. "Colours Of The Day" was previously a one minute track on their page two years ago and it's great to finally hear the full version. Skip to roughly 14 minutes into the mixtape to check it out.
It's also free to download - see the soundcloud stream below!
In Golden Tears - Pray
It's the last song we are every going to hear from the band, for why? They announced earlier this week that they'll be splitting up and "Pray" is the last track on the "Farewell EP". Their last show is on May 23rd in Hamburg - which we are flying out to - and "Pray" is forever going to be a track we cherish as we've heavily supported the band for a long time. It's everything they're about, a great way to end their career together.
It's also free to download - see the soundcloud stream below!
Bambi - Sheltered Eyes
Bambi - the Camden band - have revealed a brand new song called "Sheltered Eyes" this week, nad we've warmed to it so much that we're going to be featuring it a lot more in the coming week - hint hint #TOTW. It's got such a drive behind it, soaring guitars, atmospheric sounds and warming vocals, certainly one for the summer. And certainly one we've been playing a lot this week!
It's also free to download - see the soundcloud stream below!
The Away Days - Your Colour
The track is yet unreleased but we've been given a sneaky listen to the Istanbul band's latest single and it's one for the summer time for sure! They're playing the Kitsune party in Istanbul on May 17th and they'll be supporting Portishead and Savages on August 20th too. You can check out a 'teaser' for their song "Sleep Well" below - just to give you a flavour of their sound!
Jamie XX - Girl
There's no hiding it, Jamie XX is going to be bigger than his other project - err The XX - very soon, especially when he's producing tracks such as "Girl". Girls," a comparatively upbeat track that really complements the other track on his next single - "Sleep Sounds"- which is out on a double A-side 12-inch out May 7 via Young Turks.
The Neighbourhood - Lurk
The Californian band are back, but this time with a twist. After releasing an amazing EP a few years back they made a record last year that I have to admit, was the best LP I hear all year round! But the band have kept on writing and have got their creative juices flowing one more with their latest release. It's a mixtape called "#000000 & #FFFFFF" (Black and White for those who're not familiar with the coding).
You can download the track by clicking into this link -- > HERE
Haus - Green
The Indie-Pop band who are based in and around North London have uploaded a track they recorded last year. Titled "Green" it really showcases the bands energy and really captures their live performances well, and yes, once again it's a free download. How nice of them!
As Elephants Are - Went Wrong
When I first heard this song it was called "Taxi Orgy", maybe the risqué name was changed so it was more radio friendly, but when we heard the full version a few days back we got seriously excited for their début EP. Their "Hand Prints" EP is out on the 5th of May, not long now!
Nelson-Type - Daydreams
We found their song "Daydreams" literally by stumbling on another song on soundcloud and this just so happened to be on the 'recommended' list. By the way, that's one of the best ways to discover bands effortlessly, you do find some absolute gems such as this one. The upbeat track from the Buffalo band was uploaded a month ago, but we've been seriously into it this week.
It's also a free download, click the download button in the post yea!
Layla - Black Mud
Layla has revealed a brand new song only just two days ago, but even so we've fell in love with the piano lead, pull-on-your-heartstrings title track from her EP. The track was even produced and mixed by our good old pal Ant West. You can pre-order the EP here! It's out Monday, but do give "Black Mud" a listen to, it's simply stunning, and jaw dropping beautiful, her vocals are just perfect!
Delphic - Colours Of The Day

In Golden Tears announce split + a free "Farewell EP"
In Golden Tears have announced late on last night that they won't be continuing as a band, a band that we've raved about so much since day one and under their old name Secrets too.
Below the statement is a link to their "Farewell EP" which is free to download, enjoy, we will miss you IGT :-(
Below is the full statement:
Below the statement is a link to their "Farewell EP" which is free to download, enjoy, we will miss you IGT :-(
Below is the full statement:
Hello!
We hope each and everyone of you is doing fine. We haven't talked to you for a while but a lot of things have happened which is why we're taking some extra time to tell you what exactly has been going on with In Golden Tears and what our future looks like.
It was back in 2009 when Patrick H. Kowalewski and Patrick Behrens started a band called 'Secrets' . It was an exciting time for us because we were actually starting to fulfill our dream to become professional musicians. After the first gigs as a duo we soon felt the urge to expand the band to become more creative and to grow as musicians. We were lucky to be joined by Mats Dörband, Robin Shaw and Max Schild who completed the band so it was time for a big change.
And that was when In Golden Tears were born! We worked to the fullest to write songs, rehearse them and to bring them to life by playing them live. We were more than lucky to get some attention in the music business and when we met our manager Colin Lovrinovic we found someone who was willing to believe in us as band and as a true friend. Without him and his Team Humming (especially Vivien Mierzkalla and Jörg Peters) we would've never come as far as where we are now! With this amount of motivation we worked even more and put everything into the band to reach the next level. Still today everything we've achieved feels like a dream. We played at the awesome Dockville Festival three times, flew to Budapest to play at the stunning Sziget Festival Official and it was a huge honor to play at the Hurricane Festival as well as two tours in the UK and countless dates in Europe! So many great memories and all the people we met who helped us on our way. People like Christian Reich from Volkswagen Soundfoundation who gave us a tour bus for one year - which we gave back anything else but 'clean'. I guess you can call it #igtstyle haha
Or Initiative Musik who helped us out with funding and made it possible to record new material and tour Europe. Not to mention all the fans and friends who supported us. We also had the chance to play together with Future Islands, The Drums and The Vaccines just to name a few. We partied with Marc Terenzi and had an awsome time with the guys from Flashguns. With that being said it still feels surreal!
However, even if you haven't heard from us in a while there had been a lot going on within the band. We were working hard on our debut and again we were lucky to work with some of the best producers out there but we've also been through some hard times. We are not going to go into detail, and just want to let you know we are still all great friends and will surely remain so. But sadly we want to inform you that the band In Golden Tears has to come to an end. We have reached a point at which we don't picture the same vision for our band and just aren't able to all invest the same time, love and hard work into it that this band deserves.
We are more than sad to tell you this bad news out of nowhere but there was no other way for us. We want you to know that In Golden Tears could not have existed without you! You were the reason we all started this project and you were the ones who kept us going on further and further! You were the ones who believed in us from the start and we owe you everything!
In Golden Tears means everything to us. It was our greatest passion and we can't be more thankful for everything we have experienced. That's why it hurts even more to say goodbye to you.
As our last step as a band we're going to play one last show in our hometown Hamburg at the place where we started our journey. Prinzenbar Docks
We would also like to share with you the last couple of songs that we have recorded. Hopefully you will enjoy listening to them as much as we enjoyed writing and recording them.
With love and 'in golden tears‘
IN GOLDEN TEARS
Patrick H.K, Patrick B., Mats, Robin & Max.
THANK YOU!!!

A few days ago Cinnamon Girl and In Golden Tears posted a song, it turned out to be that Patrick H. Kowalewski (In Golden Tears) had remixed Cinnamon Girl's song. It's a fantastic alternative dance track with great production added to the mix!

Gig Review... In Golden Tears @ The Square, Harlow, 12th May 2012
After we saw them live last year we couldn't wait to see them in 2012 and especially after they secured 4th on our "Sounds of 2012" list, after adding two new members after the departure of their drummer they've got even better than last time we saw them! We originally went down to Elecrtricity in Shoreditch to see them however after most of the bands took too long to set-up and a delayed started to the evening the lads from Hamburg only played 5 songs, which was a shame. So we went down to catch up with them in Harlow, and boy... we were in for a great show!

They opened their set up with "Hollows" which saw the band use synths, sample pads, bass and drums, this was a long way off what I was expecting, but Patrick (Vocals) was commanding the crowd with his vocals and then they went into "Curse On Us". This track was more like the conventional set-up, they were using their guitars a bit more and once more people in the bar below the stage heard them play this they came upstairs to check out what was going on. Eventually the floor was filled with people adoring what they were playing. The next track was their moment to shine. "Urban Emotions" has been a track we loved and it got them to 2nd in our 'Track of the year' poll at the end of 2011. They opened up the song and you could easily see everyone loving what was being played, you could hear gentle guitars nursing your ears, bass pulsing away and drums played to perfection, the crowd were loving everything that these lads were doing! Towards the end of the song everyone was nodding their heads in approval and once the song finished they got a big round of applause!
After their most recognisable song was played they delved into some brand new tracks, "Cathedrals" was a dark Indie-Rock track that got even more people into the venue, and as well as "Black And Blue" they were amazing considering how new the songs were! The next track made my night, "Autumn Leaves" involved a mass sing-a-long during the chorus that got (nearly) everyone singing along to it, this was the highlight of the set for me as this could easily be their next single! They then finished with "Sparks And Lightnings" and their latest single "Underneath The Balance". This was a great performance and I can expect big things for them in the future!

Track of the week... In Golden Tears - Underneath The Balance
We've been long time admirers of the German foursome, now they've enlisted a further member and the sound has got so much more! In Golden Tears’ uplifting Rock is driven by a crunching bass line and commanding vocals from Patrick H Kowalewski, with their signature tones coming in at the bridge they've still kept the guitars that we well in love with but...

This is everything I've wanted from them, they've delivered the goods here, we knew them as boys, and with this track they are now men! With an extensive tour starting up soon they'll be coming to the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, The Netherlands and Denmark . You'll be sure to catch them in a town near you.

Friday's Finest #4
This week we've somehow managed to get out the article, the reason this time is that myself (Fred) and that Jordan (at Slate The Disco) was refused entry to the USA to play at SXSW. This was down to us both being 'too cool' by the US State of Homeland Security. Pfft, I know, it's a real headache, but we have a treat install for you!

Ivory Seas - Boundary (Slate The Disco):
The band takes an infectiously rhythmical and humanistic approach to their songs which can be heard in their first single ‘Boundary’. Formed in Autumn 2011, Ivory Seas are a four-piece band from London with members Adam Heron (Voice, Guitar), Thomas Walker (Voice, Guitar, Keys), Brendan O’Boyle (Bass) and George Latham (Drums). Working with producer Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Egyptian Hip Hop) on their first offering ‘Boundary’, the band create an intricate blend of flowing rhythms and textures overlaid with a humanist lyrical expression. Ivory Seas recently played as part of Artrocker’s New Blood Festival, and are soon heading into the studio to record their début Ep.
In Golden Tears - Underneath The Balance (It's All Indie):

Hotel Mexico – A Space In A Loveless Field (Slate The Disco):
Hotel Mexico are a band from Kyoto in Japan. Their brand of washed out guitar jams on début EP His Jewelled Letter Box caught the eyes and ears of various websites last year including the likes of Gorilla vs Bear and Noisey . The first of two forthcoming tracks to début is ‘A Space in the Loveless Field’ an airy, yearning song that recalls the glow of Ariel Pink at his poppiest. Later on we’ll reveal ‘Wolves running through the Desert’, a swaggering guitar-pop song that has flecks of 80s synth, and a hugely addictive guitar riff.
VOWS - Lay Me Down (It's All Indie):
After their stunning début track; 'Colours' the Midlands six-piece, and since having shared the stage with the likes of Spector, Various Cruelties and recently Brazil's CSS they're certainly one to keep an eye on. As we found out when they sprung the remix of 'Colours' (Matty Moon Remix) on us and a live demo from their forthcoming EP they're a creative bunch that'll go far if they keep on the tracks that they're on!
Hot Chip - Flutes (Unanimous):
AND UNTIL THEN... KEEP IT INDIE!

Single Review... In Golden Tears - Underneath The Balance
In Golden Tears are back, and with a track that can easily rival their stunning début track 'Urban Emotions'. Since we first caught our sight they've added another member, with additional layers in the recording and when playing live they're going to tear up the circuit when they come to the UK, but more of that later.

Underneath The Balance:

Daily Download... In Golden Tears - Urban Emotions (Radio Edit)
Nearly a year after their début single was released In Golden Tears are going to be releasing their new song 'Underneath The Balance' in April. So what can be better than getting a free download of their last single, it's the 'radio edit' but it still captures the magic that's in the song. I for one can't wait to hear more of their music, after seeing them live last year I know they're going to be in the music industry for a long time yet!

Track of the year is ... New Ivory - A Knight
New Ivory have smashed their way to the top spot on our 'Track of the year' for 2011. They first caught our eyes way back in early June, here is the original post.

They won with 345 votes out of the 1045 cast. A close second place is the best performing international act for the second year running, and third was a close battle between two bands that are very close to each others hearts, Safari and VOWS.
Here is a run down of the top 5:
2nd - In Golden Tears - Urban Emotions
3rd - Safari - So I See
4th - VOWS - Colours
5th - Films Of Colour - Actions
The rest (in no particular order)
The Spires - Fireworks
Is Tropical - South Pacific
Peace - Bblood
Rapids! - Littleblood
Waylayers - Hear No Lies
I Heart Sharks - Neuzeit
Hey Sholay - Wishbone
This has been a fantastic year for me and all of my contributors.
We all wish you a very happy new year and have a great 2012, I know I will.

Sounds of 2012 - #4 - In Golden Tears
It's been one amazing year for these four young men from Germany. Not many bands outside of the UK even get on our radar, and let alone a small band from Hamburg! When they were called 'Secrets.' they won our 'International Band Of The Year' in 2010, and it's just got even better for them in the past year! With the amazing début song 'Urban Emotions' they saw a massive increase in the fans that came to their shows, bought music, and even managed to get some amazing shows.

They've supported the now defunct Indie-Rockers 'Flashguns' and have now even got an amazing support slot with The Vaccines! In the past year they've also played a UK tour supporting Sunberbans and Red Drapes. With Humming Records backing them in 2012 you'll be sure to expect another single and maybe even an album! Check out one of their album demos below while you're here, I honestly can't wait to see this astonishing band play again!

Introducing... In Golden Tears
In Golden Tears are Patrick H. Kowalewski (Vocals, Guitar), Mats Dörband (Bass), Patrick Behrens (Vocals, Guitar) and Moritz de Chambord (Drums). Their debut single 'Urban Emotions', produced by Marius Lauber (Beat!Beat!Beat!) in Cologne and mastered by Andrew Heppner (Bravestation) in Toronto, is worldwide available through Humming Records (via Rough Trade Distribution) from April 1st.

With a cutting, melodic guitar sound which lives up to the names of Joy Division and Interpol, In Golden Tears spark an entire firework of melancholy. Pumping basslines chase echoing drum sounds and fragile synthesizer fogs across the room. They have opened stages for the likes of The Drums, Villagers, Flashguns and It's All Indie favourites, Sunderbans, Islington Boys' Club and Red Drapes. With 2011 already having proven to be a big year for new bands, In Golden Tears are looking forward to releasing more music and building their big reputation and making 2012 a year to remember for this young German band.

Track of the week... In Golden Tears - Urban Emotions
For once a young band does not call London or Manchester their home, in fact the four-piece arises from the same place where The Beatles once built up their reputation – the city of Hamburg. They have shared stages with Villagers, The Drums, Flashguns and many more as they build on their reputation they already have for their own music. You can hear gentle guitars nursing your ears, bass pulsing away and drums played to perfection. On top of that they bring the vocals in and you know they are set for good things... when they can actually sing!

The song is also available as a free download. On April 1st they are finally releasing their debut single "Urban Emotions" (mastered by Andrew Heppner (Bravestation) in Toronto) worldwide through Humming Records via Rough Trade Distribution, just before the boys head over to the UK for a couple of live shows. Imagine 'Spanish Sahara' with more soul, video just as good and a brilliant ending. You have to seriously watch out for them!
