[LISTEN] Holy Esque - Addicted Lovers (Robert Palmer Cover)

Holy Esque have unveiled their version on Robert Palmer's "Addicted Lovers", which acts as a follow-up to their debut album "At Hope's Ravine". And perhaps you might have guessed, it's got a very 80's feel to it with some deep and heavy synths paving the way.

"We have always trodden carefully in the realm of song covers." explains frontman Pat Hynes. "The idea of working on someone else's track before perfecting our own seemed strange and initially unappealing, but when the idea arose to interpret 'Addicted To Love' we really enjoyed the process. It's a dark and somewhat sleazy track with a sense of sex appeal and fun. We love the original and thought we could show a lighter side of the band through this '80s hit. I think we have achieved that and we may even feature the song in a few special upcoming shows."

Holy Esque reveal video for "Tear"

Holy Esque continue to bring artistic visuals with a powerful message to their promo videos today by releasing their new film for current single, "Tear". Directed by William Kennedy, the film tackles the depression and loneliness, an issue that is becoming increasingly more prevalent since austerity measures have hit London’s youth culture.

Kennedy said -"The film is about a lonely young woman who loses the ability to dream, who struggles to make ends meet, trapped in a routine and cut off from the people around her. She finds a way to escape her reality through a fleshy, leech-like creature that she keeps under her bed. She becomes addicted to the sensation, despite knowing that the parasitic creature is slowly taking over her mind and body. The story is cyclical. There is no end. No resolution. There is only routine, and a desperate yearning to escape."

[LISTEN] Holy Esque - Tear

Holy Esque have shared their new track "Tear" - the track which was originally released in 2012 has been reworked, rerecorded and now sounds huge! The track, which will be featuring on "At Hope's Ravine", will also be released on a 7" vinyl with a new track "Oslo" on the b-side.

Singer Pat Hynes says: "Tear" is a great example of two of the central themes of the album – darkness vs. light and hope. The song has an emotional weight and looks at the ever-constant fears and woes of everyday life against the hope of something better. It touches on escapism and the pursuit of greater things. It’s essential to the history and make-up of Holy Esque today.

Track of the week... Holy Esque - Silences

Holy Esque have had a fairly quiet 2013 by their standards, a single release and Glastonbury amongst their highlights, but now they're in 2014 and have something even bigger for you. So what are Holy Esque doing in 2014? Well it looks like they're wanting to be on the lips of every Blogger, Radio DJ and music fan with their latest effort. "Silences" has already been championed by Q Magazine and is set to be a real summer anthem for the rocker among you

They've now shaken off the WU LYF association and have crafted a sound of their own with some truly unique vocals, big dirty guitar riffs and melodic chants. This is a song we're certainly loving at the moment and is no wonder why they're one of the most exciting bands around at the moment. In a recent interview they said "You're seeing a lot of bands giving you constant update of what they're doing day to day" and I guess it's nice to see a band focusing on doing what they do best, recording amazing music. 2014 will certainly belong to Holy Esque if they continue along this path!

The Glasgow Post-Rock band will release their new single "St." on March 25th (digital only).

On the single Pat Hynes (Vocals/Guitar) said...
" 'St.' revolves around appreciation and belief, in life and in one's self. It portrays a character who loses everything around him through an actual fear of loss, which in turn, results in bitter tragedy"

Sounds of 2013 - #11 - Holy Esque

We've been following Holy Esque for what has seemed a long time now, we first heard of them via their astonishing track 'Rose' and now they've got their début EP out! I knew that their EP would be amazing to say the least, and we ended up loving it. Read our review to see why!

As of August we had yet another reason to get wet over them; 'Tear'. This IS their best song yet, and it's free to download too, so go and download it now! Another stand out track is off their debut EP and it's called 'Rose', this track is a Post-Rock juggernaut, filled with attitude and commanding vocals you'll never forget them after you've laid your ears to this beauty!

Holy Esque is what I'd define Post-Punk Revival by, big bold guitars, thick bass and vocals that remind me of Wu Lyf. The coming year is going to be a big one with them shooting up the consciousness of the world and giving us some memorable tracks. I hope they do release an album, the lads deserve something to tour the world with someday!

Holy Esque release video for 'Tear'

We introduced you guys to Holy Esque a while back now, and yesterday they released their latest track on youtube. The song is called 'Tear', and I have to admit straight away this can easily be one of my tracks of the year, JUST AMAZING. It's rare for me to warm to a track from the first minute, and just like NME said on their post, "this is their finest yet" - I'd drink to that!

EP Review... Holy Esque - Holy Esque EP

We've been following Holy Esque for what has seemed a long time now, we first heard of them via their astonishing track 'Rose' and now they've got their début EP out! I just had to download it as I knew it would be amazing to say the least, we were in for a big surprise. Read our review to see why!

Ladybird Love:
The first track on the EP, and for the fans that'll love them from here onwards the first track they would hear from Holy Esque. It sounds like they've embraced their newly found status after supporting Wu Lyf. This track sounds like Wu Lyf Mk2, with vocals more captivating than Wu's and with more depth in the song too. This is a great track to open up with.
Out of 10: 8/10

Rose:
This track is a Post-Rock juggernaut, filled with attitude and imposing vocals you'll never stop thinking about them after you've laid your ears to this beauty! Holy Esque is what I'd define Post-Punk Revival by, big bold guitars, chunky bass and vocals that are so dominant throughout the track!
Out of 10: 9/10

Loneliest Loneliness:
With an organ welcoming you to the track you may be forgiven thinking this will be a build up to something more typical 'Post-Rock', but the lads have stuck to their guns here and have given you a lovely slow jam to sit back and take in. It's a stripped down track with wonderful hooks and light synthy notes to it. It ends in a whirlwind of effectors, a great track to listen to on those lazy afternoons!
Out of 10: 7/10

Prophet of Privilege:
We first heard this track as a demo floating around in the soundcloud, this track is just as good as the rawness of the demo but it's longer, polished off and sounds bigger in every way! This could easily be my new favourite track from Holy Esque. A superb way to end off an amazing début EP!
Out of 10: 8/10
