[LISTEN] Too Cool Kid - Drained

The enigmatic Cambridge/Manchester based Too Cool Kid return with brooding and sultry new single 'Drained'. Clocking in at under 2 minutes, it's a concise, invigorating and downbeat bluesy groove of a song, punctuated by airy sections of release which showcase lead singer Jay Plent's dynamic vocal range and the band's instrumental dexterity.

Ruminating on the emotional toll an unravelling relationship can have,  the opening lyrics set the scene: "All the breath that your body took from me, I'd suck it in". The emptiness following the destruction of something spiritual that you've put so much energy into creates a physical withdrawal, resulting in a shallowness of breath and weakening of the body. The tightly wound verses juxtaposed against the anthemic choruses neatly represent the ying and yang of self-assured anger versus despair in dealing with the situation.

Whilst Too Cool Kid may hide behind a cartoon when it comes to the visual element, 'Drained' exemplifies a band which is at ease with baring themselves lyrically and thematically, and a band that is growing in confidence and swagger with every release. Listen to 'Drained' below:

The Vaccines share video for 'Give Me A Sign'

The Vaccines have unveiled a brand new video for their next single 'Give Me A Sign'. Directed by Peter Huang, the clip is an incredibly entertaining short film. The video documents the life and times of a fictional 80's band 'Wood' whilst they record and perform their new album. The Vaccines themselves also make a small appearance as the documentary film-makers, which is ironic as they are usually the 'rock-stars' but in this clip they're on the other side of the story. Every little detail reflects the 80's rock-band lifestyle, from the hairstyles, to the concerts and to the outfits. 'Give Me A Sign' is an incredibly punchy track from The Vaccines, and is most definitely a crowd-pleaser.

You can catch The Vaccines on their UK tour from late November into early December, including three unmissable shows at the O2 Academy Brixton. Check out the brand new video below!

The 1975 premier new single 'Love Me'

After spending 4 months in Los Angeles dedicated to recording their sophomore album, Manchester band The 1975 are back with a vengeance armed with an exciting, striking brand new track. 'Love Me' is the first track to be heard from the new LP, and is utterly brilliant. With a sound reflecting classic 80's pop, such as catchy guitar riffs which echo the tone of Bowie, one cannot help but feel a sense of eager familiarity with this track. Frontman Matthew Healy provides a wonderful vocal, armed with enthusiasm and grit. This song is undoubtedly an exceptional, clean and contemporary take on classic pop and is the lead up to something incredible.

'Love Me' was premiered on Radio 1 this evening as Annie Mac's Hottest Record and received an overwhelming response. The single is due for release on iTunes at midnight tonight. In an interview following the track, the band announced that their album is due for release in February 2016 and will contain 17 songs. [LISTEN] King No-One - Constellations

Don't think these lads will be busking for too much longer unless they just love the buzz of it. Their new tune 'Constellations' sounds like it would be more suited to a stadium filled with adoring fans rather than York shoppers out for a bargain, which is precisely what they'll be getting if they hear this down the high street!

A belter of a tune that i predict may rocket King No-One up to were they want to be. Layered, strong and BIG! The lads have produced again for me. Their back catalouge is looking pretty strong now for the boys which can only mean their gigs are going to be getting more crammed.

Jump on them now and don't regret it.

Mew unveil colourful, weird and wonderful video for "The Night Believer"

Glacial Danish alternative rockers release the video for new single 'The Night Believer', taken from their latest album '+-' (Plus Minus).

The video was conceived by Lianne Pierce, who also worked on the Pixies' animated video for ‘Bagboy’, and stop-motion animator Will Hodge, responsible for Wes Anderson's acclaimed take on children's book "Fantastic Mr. Fox". The result is a race between a variety of critters and a towering, hungry robot, all tangled in a myriad of colour and accompanied by the cheery tune of ‘The Night Believer.’

The childish and kaleidoscopic colour and imagery suit the uncharacteristically upbeat tune from the oft times melodramatic Scandinavians. Although a well established player in the arty alternative rock scene with nothing to prove, by still delivering crisp gems such as 'The Night Believer', Mew continue to set the benchmark at which similar up and coming acts must aspire to.
