Muse's Matt Bellamy breaks bone in his foot

What is it these days with Glastonbury headliners and breaking bones? Matt Bellamy of Muse has posted a photo of a broken/fractured toe to his Twitter account. With the words "Minor fracture big toe (ran into sprinkler w/bare feet) Hobbling next few shows No star jumps /pogoing for a while!"

Let's hope he doesn't break anymore bones otherwise it might be another shuffle-about on The Pyramid stage come June.

Glastonbury 2016 - What to do on Thursday

Since the Wednesday edition of this post was a hit, I've decided to put up one for Thursday, and to be brutally honest - there is a whole lot more going on on the second full day of the festival than the first, so with that in mind here is our 'What to do' list for Thursday!

1 - If you haven't got a sore head, wake up nice and early and treat yourself to some cooked breakfast, they do Emu sausages, Ostrich egg omelettes and all sorts of herbal tea.

2 - William's Green is where it's all at - usually the TBA/TBC bands are 'Indie' bands, last year was Wolf Alice and Drenge, the year before was The 1975 and Metronomy, the year before that was Alt-J. So it's always worth a shout,

3 - BBC Introducing - Check out the stars of tomorrow play on the BBC's flagship festival stage for new music. The line-up is smaller compared to Friday to Sunday, however they do have a few class acts from all over the UK, so if you're at a loose end watching an up and coming band is always a good shout!

4 - Check out some new and fresh Electronic music and some great artists from further afield at La Pussy Parlure Nouveau (in the Silver Hayes area) - in recent years I've seen MØ, London Grammar, Garden City Movement, Balthazar and Fenech-Soler there.

5 - Take in the view from the top of the Ribbon Tower in The Park (photo of the Tower below) - although you may have to pay to up it.

6 - Go to Shangri-La - there are clubs for every music scene there, from 80's Rock to Trance via Pop and Jungle! It's a mind blowing place.

7 - Block9 - go to Block9 and check out some pretty radical installations and epic artwork on the buildings. It's mainly a rave/dance/electronic area of the site, but it's a thing to behold even if you do go in one of the venues for a few minutes!

8 - Beat Hotel - head to the Beat Hotel, grab a drink, climb the steps outside of it if you're not too drunk and enjoy the music! Some pretty sweet DJs make appearances there and it's close to a lot of campsites, so head on down!

9 - "The World-Famous Thursday Piss Up", organised by the Glasto Chat Facebook page. Look out for a horde of pink umbrellas by the big tree in the Pyramid field on Thursday around 1pm onwards.

Glastonbury 2016 - What to do on Wednesday

The music doesn't start on Friday like everyone thinks, it actually gets going noon Wednesday, usually hours and even a day ahead of some punters arrival.

1 - Climb to the top of the hill and take a photo with the Glastonbury sign, it's quite a good work-out and try and do it while sober, then get pissed up there and try and walk down again, it's amazing looking over the festival when it plunges into darkness.

2 - Go and see Mik Artistik- He's on at the Croissant Neuf Bandstand, and if not there check out the Glastonbury app by EE - always a laugh if you've had some cider, sober or even if you're with the kids! 

3 - Walk around the site in peace and quiet - It's a really amazing place to be when there is only a small amount of people there, take some pictures and frolic around the grass before it turns muddy.

4 - Head over the the Pyramid Stage and gaze at it while they're putting the finishing touches to it.

5 - Go to the green fields and take in a seminar on global warming and get your hair done by some lovely hippie types. You can get some really cool Glasto memorabilia from here too, bracelets, organic clothing and plenty of people that will open your mind to many things!

6 - Head over to The Park and find the sing-a-long tent, where anyone can sing in a band and perform. Throw in some great song names and the band will perform them! Well worth a visit if you're good on an instrument!

7 - Be amazed by Arcadia, sometimes they have trial runs with the flame throwers, if it's raining... it'll keep you warm!

8 - Go to the Cider Bus, in-between The Pyramid Stage and William's Green. They have 10+% ciders (some even have a dash of rum in them too), warm cider and proper cider - y'know, Somerset cider, none of your Brothers type supermarket bring it in a can stuff!

9 - Wait until dark and go for a wander, it's one of the best experiences around! You can find anything if you look hard enough, I saw a Wizard play the Dr Who theme tune on a guitar last year and then went to a rave, mad right!

10 - Find the TreeCafe bar near The Park and sip on some juicy Pimms! It's located in-between The Tower and the Glastonbury sign.

11 - The Burning of the Phoenix, it's located at the sacred Stone Circle on the southern side of the site, not hard to miss really. You know when Glastonbury has officially started when you see this lit up!

12 - The fireworks at The Park, it's not hard to miss, and even on the first night Glastonbury likes to show off a bit to the punters. Usually it happens shortly after sundown.

13 - Head to Brother Bar, drink some of their pear cider and realise how fucking potent it is and then have more, why? Because it's Glastonbury and you're allowed.

Glastonbury Festival to re-locate to Longleat for 2018

Some strong rumours have indicated that Glastonbury will be relocating for 2018, which is scheduled to be their 'fallow year' - basically to give the land extra time to recover, the locals a breather for a year and the wildlife to get back to the area.

However, for 2018 the organisers, Michael and Emily Eavis seem to have settled on Longleat Safari Park. According to Loaded Magazine Longleat Safari Park is set to host the festival for one year only in 2018. "While Longleat is an unlikely permanent home for the festival" admits the article, "it looks like festival-goers may have to watch out for the odd lion when Eavis stages a one-off event there in 2018."

She Drew The Gun announced as Glastonbury's ETC Winner for 2016

She Drew The Gun has been announced as the winners of the competition perform on one of Glastonbury's main stages (and probably some others too!) at the festival in June, and win a fabulous £5,000 prize award from PRS for Music Foundation, with two of the runners up also scooping £2,500 from PRS for Music Foundation.

Thom Yorke to perform at Glastonbury under new alias

It has been sensationally leaked that Thom Yorke will be playing at this year's Glastonbury festival under the moniker of Less Information Everyone (or as it's on the line-up L.I.E). This is fuelling speculation that Radiohead will be making an appearance at the festival.

Glastonbury announces initial line-up for 2016

What a day to be alive, well it is if you're off to Glastonbury this year. The festival has announced the first poster of bands that'll grace their stages this summer, this however is not the FULL line-up as there's 1000+ slots at the festival, however this is basically the poster for the 'big acts' - check it out below and take a look, and maybe swoon at it a bit, wishing you were going.

James set to open Glastonbury 2016

The Mancunian band James are set to officially open Glastonbury by playing the 11am slot on The Other Stage. The act performing this slot usually is a 'secret act' that's not normally announced this far in advance but this year the band announced it around 3 months early via BBC Radio 5 live.

Glastonbury's Emerging Talents Competition 2016 - finalists announced

Glastonbury have announced the eight acts that have made it through to the live final of Glastonbury Festival’s 2016 Emerging Talent Competition, which is supported by PRS for Music and the PRS for Music Foundation.

The acts are: Bossy Love, Early Ghost, Gillbanks, Hattie Whitehead, Henry Green, Lady Sanity, Marcus McCoan and She Drew The Gun.

The eventual winners will perform a set on one of the main stages at this year’s Festival and will also be awarded a £5,000 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize, to help take their songwriting and performing to the next level. Two runners-up will also each be awarded a £2,500 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize.

The eight acts were selected by Glastonbury judges from the longlist of 120 artists which was compiled by 40 of the UK’s best online music writers, who chose their selections from thousands of entries.

Said Emily Eavis: "Once again, we’ve been impressed by both the quality and quantity of new music out there in the UK and Ireland, with thousands of talented acts entering this year’s competition. It was extremely tough to narrow the 120 acts on the longlist down to 8 finalists, but we’re really pleased with the group of acts we’ve ended up with. I can’t wait to see them play at the live final."


This year’s invite-only final will take place on Saturday 9th April, 2016.

Glastonbury 2016's last headliner might've just been announced

Well now, we all knew it, but I guess it was a matter of time until something 'official' was mentioned. In an interview with Vice's i-D blog, Emily Eavis has slipped who will be the third headliner at the festival in June.

"We love Adele. She’s an incredible artist and brilliantly honest and funny and real and that’s what everybody loves about her. She’s a great example because she doesn’t put up any pretence. There’s a certain pressure on women to perform in a certain way or be giving off this kind of image, while Adele is just honest and true and funny and just about as popular as you can get.

She would, wouldn’t she? It would be great to get her..."

New Order and Bring Me The Horizon to headline The Other Stage at Glastonbury in 2016

New Order and (rather sensationally) Bring Me The Horizon have been revealed as the leading contenders to headline The Other Stage at Glastonbury in 2016.

Bring Me The Horizon singer Oli Sykes told Loaded Magazine at last night's NME Awards, "I'm not supposed to tell anyone about it but, yeah, we’re going to be playing Glastonbury. We’re trying to step out of our comfort zone and appeal to people who we wouldn’t normally appeal to. We’re doing that in a lot of ways this year. As well as the festival we may or not be playing, we’re also playing with a choir and a full orchestra for Teenage Cancer Trust at The Royal Albert Hall in London."

Another insider says that Adele will play The Pyramid Stage and New Order will be on The Other Stage, clashing on the same day - they say -  "Although New Order are veterans, they’ve still got an alternative appeal, so it makes them a nice alternative for Glastonbury fans who see Adele as very mainstream."

PJ Harvey announced for Glastonbury 2016

Emily Eavis has confirmed that PJ Harvey is coming back to Glastonbury in 2016, the first time since 2004. She's going to be performing at The Other Stage this year, but no other details have been announced.

Coldplay named as first Glastonbury 2016 headliner

Coldplay will headline the Sunday night of Glastonbury, it has been confirmed via their twitter.The band have headlined The Pyramid in 2002, 2005 and 2011.They join ELO as the only other band officially announced for the festival... so far. We're going to be expecting more in the coming weeks.

The quarter will be the first band ever to top the bill four times when the festival gets under way on the 23rd of June, and obviously it's already sold out!

Glastonbury 2016 and those rumours that WON'T go away

As you know, the Glastonbury line-up is always shrouded in mystery, apart from a few acts here and there by doing a self  announcing themselves 'by accident'. I'm not going to sit here and bore you with the latest in Jazz Fusion act or announce a weird relatively unknown band from Korea, but focus on those big acts that you'll see at the top of the bill.

Muse

It wouldn't be a Glastonbury line-up rumour without Muse, now they're still playing those huge shows all over the world to masses of people, so a headline slot at The Pyramid Stage is all that I can see them doing. If they're going to do it, it'll be one of those 'I was there moments' - and I for one hope it happens.

New Order

It's been a while since New Order have played at the festival, however since the release of their latest album - "Music Complete" - they are just as big as they ever were. With guest vocals on the new album from La Rou's Elly Jackson, Brandon Flowers and Iggy Pop if they do play it'll be full of guests!

Coldplay

Shall we move on already or...? Coldplay are one of those bands that will even settle for a 'secret' gig - so even if they don't get announced as a Pryamid Stage act, be sure to sniff about on the Glastonbury App when it comes out and see if any stage with a 'TBC' next to it is big enough for them. Maybe they could 'open' the festival on the 'Other Stage' on the Friday morning like Beady Eye, The Charlatans and Kaiser Chiefs have done. 

Bring Me The Horizon

The band might not be the first choice when it comes to Glastonbury, but in recent years the organisers have been booking a lot more rock acts and are warming to the idea of those 'heavy' bands. Bring Me The Horizon are a band that are relentlessly touring, playing in arenas already as well as packing out Alexandria Palace in London, along with a chart topping album they could be dark horses if they get booked. I wouldn't expect to see them on The Pyramid, but top end of John Peel Stage or The Other Stage for sure.

Bloc Party

Having topped the bill way back in 2009 on The Other Stage, they haven't played there since. But with a refreshed line-up and a new album under their wings they'll be looking to party on in Worthy Farm. I'd be the first to admit, they won't be high up the bill, maybe a 'secret set' on a small stage or John Peel Stage, nothing bigger sadly - but if they do play I'd want to be there!

Foals

Rumours always follow Foals - and this is no different - they've been booked to co-headline Reading & Leeds, which means they might not be announced on the Glastonbury line-up, but as we saw last year The Libertines filled in at short notice, and what a lot of people don't know is that Foals were actually asked first! So if any drop-outs occur expect to see the Oxford band there!

The Last Shadow Puppets

They kinds have to be there, with no UK festival announced as of yet, it's almost a dead cert Miles and Alex will be bringing their swagger to the festival - anyone remember back in 2013 when Alex joined Miles Kane at The John Peel stage? Yeah! They could be a sneaky headline act on The Other Stage - just you wait!

First Glastonbury 2016 act has been announced

Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall has apparently let slip that legendary US rockers ZZ Top will make an appearance at this summer’s Glastonbury, as part of their June & July Hell Raisers Tour, possibly in the legends slot.

The venue’s website discusses 20 dates over the course of the two months (including a spot in Pilton):

"ZZ Top is in June and July 2016 for 20 concerts, which are all part of their new roadshow to Europe . The Hell Raisers Tour kicks off in Birmingham to travel further then to the renowned Glastonbury Festival in Pilton . Then the band to mainland Europe is going to include performances in France , the Netherlands, Germany , Austria, Denmark , Finland, Sweden , Belgium and the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland where they recorded their DVD ” Live at Montreux 2013"

[RUMOURS] Daft Punk tipped headline Glastonbury 2017

Daft Punk are being tipped for a headline slot at Glastonbury 2017, for why? Well the band announced back in 2011 that the band won't be touring until 2017, with the forum at Coachella stating that they'll play some shows in 2013 (which they did) and a show at MSG (which they did).

Also the Reddit section devoted to the band also states that the band would be touring in 2017, or won't be touring at all. With the Glastonbury organisers already stating that the 2016 and 2017 headliners have been booked there's no wonder there is speculation around high profile acts.

The year is 1997 and Daft Punk is just so hot right now. They have 2 albums under their belt and decide to release a 'live' album title, "Alive 1997". Moving on. The year is now 2007. Daft Punk has released 4 albums, 2 since "Alive 1997", and the duo embarks on one of the most talked about tours in electronic music history, "Alive 2007". This is their last major tour to this date. Now the year is 2016. Daft Punk has released 1 album since Alive 2007. Rumours begin surfacing of a new album in the works, theorized to début on Tidal, which they are partial owners of. Fast forward to 2017. Hypothetically, Daft Punk releases said “new album” and embarks on Alive 2017 after releasing 2 albums since Alive 2007.

But one question remains, will we see Daft Punk at Glastonbury? I think so, if they were releasing something in 2016 they would've already announced something, so I can't see their performance being in 2016, rather 2017 - after all - 2007 was their last 'Alive Tour'. It just makes perfect sense for them to do it in 2017.

The Eavis' are no slouches, they've already booked up the headline acts for 2016 and 2017's festival - proving once again that they don't mess about when it comes to planning ahead! Obviously they've not announced who is playing, but the betting shops and online bookmakers have got a few ideas!

Glastonbury 2016 tickets go on sale next month!

Get your cash ready! Glastonbury Festival's 2016 tickets will be going on sale next month!

We’re very pleased to announce that tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2016 will go on sale at the beginning of October (dates and details below). Glastonbury 2016 will take place from Wed, 22nd June to Sun, 26th June 2016.

As part of our ongoing efforts against ticket touting, anyone who would like to attend next year’s Festival will need to have registered in advance. Registration remains free of charge and only takes a few minutes at www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk. You can also check your existing registration here.

Standard tickets will be going on sale at 9am BST on Sunday, 4th October. As in previous years, tickets will be sold exclusively at glastonbury.seetickets.com. You may book up to six tickets per transaction. Festival goers will be able to book a ticket by paying a deposit, with the balance due in spring 2016.
