[LISTEN] David Bowie - To Be Love

 After the loss of a true icon the world was mourning, but today sees the first of some new material which hasn't seen the light of day before. Bowie's track "To Be Love" was released online in memory of him and has been unveiled by the Mind Body Network and the song's writer, Ron De Strulle.

Ron De Strulle says that they met in Los Angeles in 1970 while Bowie's manager was trying to secure him a US record deal. While there, they worked on a number of demoes together, including 'To Be Love" - which is an airy and very psychedelic affair.

Ron De Strulle said - "He was looking to create a couple of signature styles to promote to the record companies. David brought ideas and lyrics and we cut some rough tracks. If I played a few bars on the keyboard, he could see the whole picture and he could integrate it into his own work."

David Bowie-inspired music software to be released

MusicRadar has announced that Tony Visconti and Eventide (the developers) have been working for the past two years working on the software. The plug-in is said to be inspired by "how powerful an instrument Bowie's voice was... and how he was able to harness that power by employing various microphone techniques".

Bloc Party cover David Bowie's "Heroes" in Paris

Just when you thought Bloc Party were 'not a guitar band' anymore they only go and pull this cover out of the bag, and it's their first full cover since their rendition of Girls Aloud's "Call The Shots" back in 2009!

Anyway, Bloc Party covering David Bowie, can't get any better than that - I'm done, I'll be here gazing into the night, it's amazing!!!

Lorde performs "Life On Mars" with David Bowie's live band

Today, the BRIT Awards paid a very touching tribute to the late and great David Bowie by presenting him with the Icon Award posthumously. Annie Lennox then introduced Gary Oldman, who accepted the award on Bowie's behalf, and then they introduced Bowie's former backing band, who performed a medley of his hits.

As the medley ended Lorde joined them to perform "Life on Mars?" - and you can watch the stunning performance below.

[LISTEN] Gang Of Youths - Heroes (David Bowie Cover)

Ganf of Youths have recorded a very touching cover of David Bowie's "Heroes", it's a raw and ready track with some very delicate synths and drum beats turning one of Bowie's biggest ever hits into a late night chillout anthem.

"I wish I had some ornate or choice words to express how sad I am at the moment but I don’t, so I  figured the best way for me to remember david bowie was to cover the first song of his that I ever heard.

At the risk of being trite, “heroes" changed my life. the melody accompanying “I, I will be king/and you/you will be queen” is to me, not only the finest melody the thin white duke ever wrote but among the finest ever written period.

And if you listen to the synth line in the end chorus of our track “radioface” very, very closely you can hear a small nod to “heroes”.

[LISTEN] Pulled Apart By Horses - Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie Cover)

Pulled Apart By Horses have unveiled a tribute to David Bowie with a cover of "Ziggy Stardust", with all proceeds donated to Teenage Cancer Trust. The track will be available on iTunes this Friday (Jan 15th).

Speaking about the track, James Brown said "On Sunday January 10th, 2016, the world lost one of the most important and influential musicians of all time, David Bowie. Along with the millions of people all over the world who's lives he had touched, we were shocked and saddened to hear the news. We're all huge fans of his work, so at band practice on Monday night we decided to learn and record a tribute to him and his incredible legacy. Here is a cover of one of our favourite tracks, ‘Ziggy Stardust’. All profits from the track will go to Teenage Cancer Trust which is an amazing cause. Long live The Goblin King!’"

Unheard David Bowie tracks to be released?

When the world lost David Bowie, his new album was out in the world for only 2 days, but already reports are now coming out stating that tracks which didn't make the album are set to released later on in the year.

Like whenever someone passes in the music world, people delve into the archives to find some loose vocal recordings like what happened with Michael Jackson or Freddie Mercury's posthumous albums. Here Sasha Frere-Jones - LA Times - wrote before Bowie's death "There are five more songs from these sessions that have yet to be released. So look forward to next Christmas and hope for a deluxe edition".

David Bowie passes away ages 69

Singer-songwriter and music legend David Bowie has died at the age of 69 from cancer. The news was confirmed by is son, film director Duncan Jones and was issued via a statement was issued on his social media accounts.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

David Bowie reveals disturbing video for "Lazarus"

David Bowie has revealed a very disturbing video for his new track "Lazarus". The video sees Mr Bowie wearing the same bandages and is also seem hospital bound. Well, at least right until the second half of the video when he is seen dancing (not on the ceiling) and writing while in a black and silver striped suit - yeah we know it's odd!

"Lazarus" is taken off David Bowie's upcoming album "Blackstar" - his 25th so far - which is out 8th January 2016.

David Bowie announces new album "Blackstar"

It can now be confirmed that "Blackstar" is the forthcoming single and album from David Bowie. Contrary to inaccurate reporting on the sound and content of the album, only the following can be confirmed: The single will be released on November 20th and is not part of David’s theatre piece "Lazarus".
The album will be released on David’s birthday, January 8th 2016.

David Bowie Releases New Track

Bowie has released the B-side to his track 'Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)' today (Nov. 10th), which is titled 'Tis A Pity She Was A Whore.

You can download the track via iTunes but you can also listen to it below. If you're looking to own this physically, Sue (Or In A Season of Crime) is available as a 10" vinyl on November 17th. 

On the same day, Bowie's compilation album, Nothing Has Changed, is also due to be released. This will include the recently released singles and unreleased material such as Let Me Sleep Beside You. 

Single Review... David Bowie - Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)

David Bowie is a household name, and rightly so. Bowie is one of the most respected musicians in the world and has multiple classic albums to his name. Songs such as 'Heroes', 'Let's Dance' and 'Space Oddity' have gone down in history as some of the best songs ever released. There is absolutely no doubt that Bowie is a mastermind. However, the peak of Bowie's musical career has been and gone as shown with his new song 'Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)'.

Lasting for an impressive seven minutes (probably three minutes too long), Bowie's 'Sue' is a chaotic and manic fuse of music that simply does not fit together. To say the very least, the song is experimental. The heavy influence in jazz mixed with Bowie's roots make for a stressful seven minutes. There is a reason why Bowie and Frank Sinatra would never work together, and that reason has been released. And obviously because Sinatra has passed away.

The song comes across as being fuelled by love and intense passion which is represented through the very off-beat drumming. Bowie's vocals are strained and most definitely not sounding as good as they once did. It's a disappointing clash of instruments that is unsettling and not as one would expect from David Bowie. Unfortunately, not even his fame or long list of great past hits can excuse this song.

David Bowie unveils new single "Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)"

Happy Sunday! Yes, David Bowie has unveiled a new track today, the first since his last LP came out in 2013. Spanning over seven minutes it length, “Sue” was recorded in New York this past summer with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, and the very Jazz infused track can be heard below!

The song premièred on BBC Radio 6 earlier today and his new album "Nothing Has Changed" is out November 18th.
