Swim Deep unveil video for 'Grand Affection'

Birmingham indie band Swim Deep have revealed their entertaining video for their next single 'Grand Affection'. Set in a school in London, the clip follows all members of Swim Deep as they run the establishment and teach the children their lessons in their school of 'Grand Affection'. You can't fault the band's attire of bright white clothing, it certainly gives the video that extra edge. The track itself is brimming with nostalgia as well as giving off a sentiment of pure happiness. Austin's role as head teacher of the school just puts the icing on the cake really, he plays the part perfectly and the school of 'Grand Affection' is seemingly the ideal place for all music-loving teens out there.

Swim Deep are headlining The Dome at Tufnell Park tonight as part of the NME Awards shows, be sure to check them out if you can! Meanwhile, watch the new video below, it's great!

[LISTEN] Swim Deep - Fueiho Boogie

Welcome to Monday, and welcome to Swim Deep's longest track ever, sitting in at a whopping 8minutes and 11seconds! "Fueiho Boogie" is the latest track to come off the band's forthcoming album "Mothers" - out 2nd October via Chess Club Records.

Swim Deep release video for 'Namaste'

Swim Deep have unveiled their hilarious video for new single 'Namaste' taking retro game shows as the main theme in this exciting video. With cameo appearances from familiar faces, such as Fred Macpherson from Spector, the whole concept is highly entertaining and fits with the song perfectly. The Birmingham band have decided to go all out vintage in the video clip with outfits so old that it's hard to believe this video has been made in 2015.

[LISTEN] Swim Deep - One Great Song And I Could Change The World (Rat Boy Remix)

Rat Boy is on the rise, and on his way there he's remixed Swim Deep's latest single "One Great Song And I Could Change The World". It seems that Jordan Cardy - aka Rat Boy - is not just great at writing songs and performing, but also is a wizard at remixing tracks. Here he's gone all spacey on the Birmingham band's track giving it echoing and distant vocals, baggy and dub vibes along with Rat Boy's knack for creating a tune!

[WATCH] Swim Deep - One Great Song and I Could Change The World

Swim Deep have today revealed the video to their current single "One Great Song And I Could Change The World". The news also follows the band announcing their autumn tour, which ends at London's famous Roundhouse on the 22nd of October. The video was shot in Paris and showcases their grown-up attitude they've got since the start of their campaign for the second album.

The track is a perfect example of using your influences to your strength, here is sounds like New Order vs Psych-Pop, you can watch the video below.

Swim Deep announce UK tour

The Birmingham band have announced an Autumn UK tour set to take place in October with 11 shows currently on the bill. The Magic Gang from Bournemouth will be the main support act for the sting of shows with some more acts likely to be announced for some dates.

Swim Deep unveil "One Great Song And I Could Change The World"

The lengthy title of Swim Deep's new track is "One Great Song And I Could Change The World" - quite the mouthful, and it’s the second track to be taken from their new album and continues along the same lines as their last single "To My Brother".

Swim Deep unveil B-Side "Hotel California"

Today sees the unveiling of Swim Deep's latest track, "Hotel California". It’s the b-side to recent single "To My Brother" - which is out on Chess Club Records - and shares the singles baggy feel whilst showing a more expansive scope to the band.

Single Review... Swim Deep - 'To My Brother'

It'll take a listen or two just to get your head around the fact this is the same Swim Deep whose debut album was fronted by the lyrics, 'don't just dream in your sleep it's just lazy'; a lethargic approach to a debut which at the time was filled with such promise.

Previous tracks weren't dreadful, no. After all, 2013 saw a lot of attention on Swim Deep, probably only due to radiation of praise towards fellow B-Town mates, Peace. The problem though was that songs with the lyrics, 'Fuck your romance I wanna pretend, that Jenny Lee Lindberg is my girlfriend' are unlikely to stand the test of time and a superficial growing hysteria around the band. After twelve tracks it's been hard to see where Swim Deep could go from debut album, 'Where The Heaven Are We' and progress to a more serious level, until now.

You always knew 2015 was the natural, two-year cycle, return for Swim Deep and here it is. Disguised under a gown of synth-pop, new addition James Balmont has revived the band, with new track, 'To My Brother', crying out to be an early contender for summer indie anthem. Frontman, Austin Williams', vocals are obscured by the greater focus on 80s melodic synth and thicker guitar riffs. It's what The Klaxons latest record should've sounded like and any bullshit lyrics are quickly rid of, with 'All I do is preach for my brother', being the main loop which blissfully echoes through a much richer track which only gets better throughout.

To have moved away from their previous sound is something that'll reinvigorate crowds and some love-lost fans. Quite what the rest of the new album will sound like though is open for debate.

Swim Deep share new track "Sycamore"

After a year that has seen Swim Deep crash the top-20 with their début album ‘Where The Heaven Are We’ and a sold-out UK headline tour, that took in Birmingham’s historic Town Hall and ended at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, the Brummie 4-piece will round the year off in a typical buoyant fashion; with a free download release of their Christmas song, ‘Sycamore’.

In a nod to the location they recorded their debut record Swim Deep are streaming ’Sycamore’ now and will be giving it away as a free download to fans on Christmas Eve.

Swim Deep début in UK album charts top 20

Well we say that, quite literally to the definite. Swim Deep entered the UK albums chart at #20. Which is still a major achievement for the young band from Birmingham. They were at #6 in the midweek charts, but majorly down to pre-orders bumping them up a slight.

Album Review... Swim Deep - Where The Heaven Are We

Swim Deep have taken their time. One of the leading names emerging from a new-wave of B-town Brit-Pop bands, Swim Deep have been making their name alongside ‘PEACE’ &; ‘JAWS’, the former of which have already released their début record to critical acclaim. Now just over 3 months after the release of ‘In Love’, we have ‘Where The Heaven Are We’ and it’s time for Austin &
Co. to show us what they’ve had up their sleeves for so long. Does the album seamlessly integrate itself into the river of defining brit-pop débuts or does it keep to itself too much and try to hold its own current?

What becomes clear in the opening three tracks: ‘Intro’, ‘Fransisco’ & the previously released single ‘King City’ is that this record has arrived from a place of positivity. The boys have taken the attitude of ‘Why don’t we just do it?’, it’s about forgetting that the people around you can’t help themselves and doing what you need to do to achieve what you want. These ideas are cemented in the fifth track ‘Colour Your Ways’. After a deep sea synth echoes through the intro, Austin states he’s ‘had his head in the sands and it feels like waiting’, later proposing in the chorus that these problems only take a little action. Plunged within these first five tracks is the track that brought Swim Deep to the attention of the wider UK, ‘Honey’. The track is still just as big as it was last year and the productive ethos of Swim Deep presents itself wonderfully in the lyrics ‘don’t just dream in your sleep, it’s just lazy’. Unfortunately, the DNA of ‘Honey’ is a reason for some gripes in later tracks. At points WITHAW (especially in the middle-ground tracks), lets Austin’s voice fade behind the synths and when this happens those particular tracks become a little forgetful. In addition to the clanging synths and twinkling guitars that we’ve already heard in releases like the aforementioned ‘Honey’, it feels as if Swim Deep might be recycling structural ideas a little. Hopefully, this is just a case of the band defining their sound and in later releases we’ll see them experiment more with structure and instrumentation.

Now, this in no way means that the non-single releases are anything worth missing! The musical tropes that Swim Deep fall (perhaps even, throw themselves) into consistently pay off. The guitar lines ricochet throughout the record, they swim round your head as if they’ve been recorded 20,000 leagues under and in ‘Red Lips I Know’, the riffs are met by a grungier sound which really lets you feel the boys hammering down on the drums. ‘Soul Trippin’ is where the previously iterated ideas behind Swim Deep are turned into a whole track, the band actually stray from their classic structure here as well and it pays off with the track sounding more mature then most others on the record. ‘Stray’ feels like it slowly releases its energy for you. Beginning with a deep bass line, it pushes out its synths seductively until your slowly nodding your head along. The backing vocals on this track are magic and float behind Austin’s lead vocal perfectly. But wait, we’re not done here. Suddenly, a blur-esque guitar line kicks in and the song starts to build itself up again in to a slightly harder-edged version. Now it’s really kicking and the backing vocals have become mere ‘Oohs’ that float intertwined with the bass until the track arrives at a sudden halt.

‘She Changes The Weather'’ . It'’s a brave move to release your album's closer long before it'’s released, especially when it'’s this special. The piano sample intro builds into a beautifully layered introduction, swelling with guitar lines and smooth cymbals. This is a real love song, there'’s no pretension, the lyrics are honest and rarely fall to cheese. The guitar phrases crash across each bar, soaked in delay sounding like passing, screaming trains. In this final track, Swim Deep transcend their surf/brit-pop label and shine as one of the best tracks of the year is put on display.

The boys certainly swam deep for this record , they spent a long time in the blue depths but came out with something that might be more for themselves than their fans, which isn’t a bad thing for a band to do but can isolate the listener at some points. They came back with a record where every track has been soaked in the ocean and emerged with guitar riffs pouring off of sun-soaked synthesizers. I hope in the future, Swim Deep can stray from their comfort zone a little and experiment. Tracks like ‘She Changes The Weather’ show that they can create something very special when they do that.
