Coldplay named as first Glastonbury 2016 headliner
Coldplay will headline the Sunday night of Glastonbury, it has been confirmed via their twitter. The band have headlined The Pyramid in 2002, 2005 and 2011.They join ELO as the only other band officially announced for the festival... so far. We're going to be expecting more in the coming weeks.
The quarter will be the first band ever to top the bill four times when the festival gets under way on the 23rd of June, and obviously it's already sold out!

Coldplay début new track "Amazing Day"
Coldplay have débuted a brand new track called "Amazing Day" at New York City’s Global Citizen Festival, the new song is the first insight as to what they're follow-up to 2014's "Ghost Stories" would sound like.
What's even better is that it sounds like they'll be releasing an album before the end of the year. Now we're excited - watch the video below.

Coldplay write song for departing BBC Radio 1 DJ
The band have written a new song entitled "Gone but not F.Cotton"for Fearne Cotton and it commemorates her 10 year run at the BBC station and thanks Cotton for "making all of out mornings shine", "the stories" and introducing everyone to Lana Del Rey in the early days of her career.
You can listen to the new track below, we're pretty sure it won't be on their new album, but this is such a touching sentiment from a huge band to a DJ.

Mercury Music Prize Nominations Announced Tomorrow!
The prestigious Mercury Music Prize contenders will be announced tomorrow afternoon at 5:30pm by Alice Lavine at The Hospital Club in London. Television coverage will be broadcast on Channel 4 by Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw. Previous winners include James Blake, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys and Alt-J.
So who could be in the running for the prize? Let's have a look shall we?
So who could be in the running for the prize? Let's have a look shall we?
BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB - 'So Long, See You Tomorrow'
It'll be the first time the boys get nominated for the award. This album shows exactly how diverse Bombay Bicycle Club can be.
EAST INDIA YOUTH - 'Total Strife Forever'
A storming LP with classic songwriting manipulated in to electronic soundscapes - an immersive concept of emotionally captivating work.
ELBOW - 'The Take Off and Landing of Everything'
Familiar faces to the Mercury Music Prize having won it in 2008, 'The Take Off and Landing of Everything' sees Guy Garvey and co deliver another beautifully crafted album.
COLDPLAY - 'Ghost Stories'
Also no stranger to the awards, 'Ghost Stories' is a darker more electronic return with special tracks including Jon Hopkins-produced 'Midnight' and 'Always In My Head', unfortunately let down by the formulaic Avicii collaboration 'A Sky Full of Stars'.
DAMON ALBARN - 'Everyday Robots'
The music veteran that is Damon Albarn released his first solo LP this year and took it to his headline set at Latitude. The album ventures in to Albarn's complex creativity and creates a wonderfully expressive result.
KATE TEMPEST - 'Everybody Down'
Kate is currently the bookmakers' favourite for a nomination and sees the 27 year old spoken word artist bring her gritty yet creative product to the spotlight.
FKA TWIGS - 'LP1'
FKA Twigs' cryptic gallop to the frontline of left-field electronica was met with high critical reviews earlier this year.
JUNGLE - 'Jungle'
The severely-hyped Jungle managed to free the pressure by delivering a consistent set of indie-funk tracks earlier this year.
DANIEL AVERY - 'Drone Logic'
Daniel Avery is still a relatively underground producer but 'Drone Logic' is a simplistic electronic concept but throws around many dynamics and contrasts to keep maximum interest in the sound.

Listen to Coldplay and Cat Power's collaboration
Listen to "Wish I Was Here" via NPR. The track is taken from the new Zach Braff film of the same name and the song sounds like it was meant to be. The piano led track can easily fit into Coldplay's new album, it's just stunning!
Here's how it was made: Zach Braff, the creator of the film "Wish I Was Here", gave an early version of the film to Coldplay's Chris Martin. Braff said:

"Martin got the band together to work on the song. "Chris had the idea that it would be sung by a woman. I thought that was a genius idea, because one of the things the film is about is a strong woman (Kate Hudson's character) becoming the matriarch of her family. When Chris and I were talking, we both kind of simultaneously said, 'Cat Power.' I reached out to Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) and she and I met and really clicked. I set her up to watch the film in her apartment. The whole time she was watching she kept texting me all the different parts she was loving. She said yes the instant it was over."

Chris Martin said:
The idea of "Ghost Stories", for me, was ‘how do you let the things that happen to you in the past – your ghosts – how do you let them affect your present and your future?’ Because there was a time when I was feeling like they were going to drag me down and ruin my life, and the lives of those around me. I was very lucky to meet a very good sufi teacher who started to introduce the idea of ‘if you sit with your experiences and the things you’ve been through, they alchemize.’ At the time he said that, I didn’t really know what that meant, but I trusted that it would work, and the more that I was learning about that, the more music just started flowing through.Follow / [FACEBOOK]

Coldplay stream album opener "Always In My Head"
Coldplay are set to return to the #1 spot in the album charts when "Ghost Stories" gets released in May. A live version of the song was on the internet just after the band performed at SXSW, but this was swiftly removed.
So last night on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show he played the studio version, which is the opening song on the band's forthcoming LP. After the commercial success of their last album they lost a lot of fans, but with the ambient noises and chilled back tracks the band have came up with, they're set to reclaim lost fans.

Evais "Final Glastonbury headliner is one of the world's biggest selling bands"
In a new interview with the Bristol Post, Michael Eavis has dropped a big hint about who will be joining Kasabian and Arcade Fire as a headliner of The Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.
"We are expecting to announce the full line-up at the beginning of May and everything is now in place. We are more than happy with the calibre of the acts and the headliner on Saturday will be one of the biggest-selling bands in the world at the moment."As Gigwise pointed out the word 'band' puts the rumours of Prince and David Bowie to rest, but now Coldplay, Metallica and Fleetwood Mac are the front-runners for the Saturday slot on The Pyramid stage.

Coldplay announce new album and release official lead single, 'Magic' (listen)
Following last weeks spontaneous teaser release of experimental new song 'Midnight' and accompanying music video, I and many others began to speculate that the wait for a new Coldplay album maybe somewhat short-lived - and oh how right we were.
Having been produced by Jon Hopkins, the LP will feature nine tracks and will be released through both Parlophone and Atlantic Records. You can pre-order the album now from Amazon and iTunes.
Confirming the rumours of a new album via their Facebook page earlier today, another new song - 'Magic', was revealed to coincide with the announcement and unlike 'Midnight', is the albums official lead single.
The track-listing for the album is as follows:

Coldplay unveil experimental new track "Midnight"
Hear ye, hear ye - Coldplay have unveiled a brand new single called "Midnight" just moments ago, and fans are loving how they're going all experimental Bon Ivor on them.
And for us, seeing them come from the first album to their latest, losing die hard fans and getting the likes of Rihanna to sing on their tracks, it's been a long ride. But this new track - in my mind - is the band at their pure and best. Scroll on down to check it out!
The Mary Wigmore directed music video was spontaneously uploaded to the band's official website with no additional information earlier this afternoon. It predominantly sees the band roaming around a forest whilst the title tracks, that hints at a new yet potentially Marmite musical direction, soundtracks it.
The Chris Martin fronted group, who's last album "Mylo Xyloto" sold over 8 million copies worldwide, are rumoured to be working on their sixth LP and although there has been no confirmation as of yet, perhaps this musical gem is an indication to suggest the arrival of it isn't that far away.
