[LISTEN] EAT FAST - Stammer

EAT FAST's new track "Stammer" is just over two minutes long, which doesn't give me much time to write about, or does it? I tend to write a review while the track is playing, but this fuzz laced track just jumps out from the starting blocks and it feels like you're running with Usain Bolt. It's a rapid track with some lovely distorted vocals and melodies. Despite it being a short track you'll be sure to stick it on repeat right after it's finished!

[LISTEN] Yuck - Hearts In Motion

For the past seven year or so years, the London band - Yuck - has been constantly been putting out fun guitar music, and today, the band has announced their third LP "Stranger Things". The album is due out February 26th via Mamé Records. Their first single off the record is"Hearts In Motion" and is easily one of their best tracks to date, with some of their typical lo-fi fuzz rock on view, it sounds like they're aiming big with the next album!

[LISTEN] Hinds - Chili Town

Spanish Indie-rockers Hinds have revealed a brand new track called "Chili Town", which is lifted from their up-coming début album.

Speaking about the track the band said...

"Chili Town was born in a Friday afternoon.
While drinking sangria we realized that if our songs were battles, we'll always end up being the injured soldier. Rhen we were like "fuck it dude, why are we always the weak one in our lyrics??? "hat's wrong with us???" 

so yeaaaaahhh we made it! we wrote a winner song! ...right? "Chili Town" was written exactly in the same place and way we wrote our first song ever, AND is gonna be released exactly with the same team that took care of it : Lucky Number music in Europe and Mom and Pop in the US. You can't imagine how proud and excited we feel smile emoticon .

[LISTEN] Gold Jacks - Take It Back

Whilst there are many who believe Manchester’s Gold Jacks were conceived through a shared appreciation of crunchy, lo-fi blues, and borne out of mutual respect for their City’s less salubrious watering holes, the fact remains that this was merely a cover story; a well-timed façade that has allowed both the true identities, and the true intentions of the band to remain hidden until the time came for their real purpose to be revealed. That purpose? To resuscitate the still-twitching corpse of the UK’s alternative scene before it’s picked clean by the commercial carrion crows that populate the Top 40.
 

Following on from ‘One Kinda Women’, their latest offering ‘Take It Back’ sees Gold Jacks slowing the pace and allowing the sultry sleaze of pure guitar-driven rock to slip through the track’s intentional pauses, in turn brought about by a deft understanding of musical spacial awareness. The apparent simplicity offset by Stewart Burns’ impassioned vocal.

 

[SINGLE REVIEW] Good Morning - On The Streets/You

Melbourne's Good Morning hit us back with this new incredibly dreamy two track - On The Streets/You which is a double A side from an upcoming cassette. After a few months of silence, the duo, consisted of Liam Parsons and Stefan Blair, have returned with some sick tunes. But what has changed?  On The Streets is their usual happy song, with a pinch of despair, whereas You seems to show a darker side of Good Morning, it definitely has a melancholic melody to it.

Parsons and Blair share with us their sadness through their hopless lyrics, but with some happy and dreamy melodies. Going from an up-beat catchy tune to a melancholic one, the duo leaves us feeling confused about life - a real emotional roller coaster. Previously compared to artists such as Ty Segall, Kurt Vile or even Deerhunter, Good Morning definitely have something good going on. Needless to say, we are very excited for this cassette, and maybe even an album?

Matt Tong and Alex Newport form Red Love + shares début track "Gone Tomorrow"

Matt Tong (formerly of Bloc Party) and Alex Newport (producer of Bloc Party's "Four" album) have joined forces as Red Love and have also revealed their début track "Gone Tomorrow". It's a dreamy track with washed out vocals, layers upon layers of fuzzy lo-fi guitars and a heavy ending.

It gives you a great teaser into what this duo can do!

Best Coast reveals new track "Feeling Ok"

The duo have revealed their new track today - "Feeling Ok" - via a lyric video. It's lifted from their upcoming album "California Nights" which is released on the 5th of May via Harvest Records. You can stream the video just below!

Swedish lo-fi pop act HOLY, the project of Umeå based Hannes Ferm, is set to release its debut LP Stabs on March 11 via London/Stockholm label PNKSLM Recordings and Dennis Lyxzén of Refused's Ny Våg Records. Happyness cover "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones

Happyness have recorded a lo-fi cover of "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones, with an air of hush Matt Bellamy vocals mixed in for good measure.

Happyness have recently signed a deal with Moshi Moshi, so expect to hear more from the trio soon!

Sounds of 2015 - #13 - Gengahr

Some would say this band is a surprise, but after signing to Transgressive - the very same label that signed Foals when they were unknowns - and have an EP release penned in and are set to have a storming year next year. With a string of dates supporting fellow Transgressive signees Dry The River and management label mates Wolf Alice they're surely going to be on the road a lot next year.

After seeing Gengahr open for Wolf Alice earlier on this year we've been a fan of theirs, and today the band have unveiled a steady stream of songs since, culminating in the release of "Powder" in late 2015, we picked up their EP for just £4 after the show earlier in the year and even from the early days we could tell they were going to just be big by the end of the year, and in January 24th 2015 they're also supporting Alt-J at the massive O2 Arena in London! So from pub venues to arenas in a matter of 8 months isn't bad!

They're a band that doesn't jeer up the crowd, yet wows them with their delicate guitar tones, captivating vocals, oohs and aahs as well as their flashes of early Radiohead intertwined in their music. 2015 could see a departure from their 'demos sound', but an exciting year is definitely on the cards!

Palace announce biggest show to date at Red Gallery, Shoreditch

Palace were hand-picked by Jamie T to support him at his London comeback show in August before releasing their debut Lost In The Night EP late October via tastemaker label Beatnik Creative.

They are now set to headline the 400-capacity Red Gallery in Shoreditch on the 9th of April 2015 – tickets are now on sale here. The announcement follows the news they will support Jamie T again, this time in Paris on Thursday, and being confirmed for Eurosonic Festival this coming January in the Netherlands.

Track of the week... Heavy Waves - Fool For You

It's been a while since Heavy Waves has released anything, but today (27th October) the band uploaded their returning track, "Fool For You". It's a song laced with guitar fuzz and with a tasty flavour of lo-fi sounds, similar to that of Yuck's early demos. Having played with the likes of Peace, Swim Deep and Jaws, the band can be considered as one of the last B-Town bands yet to break. But with a strong track such as this, there might be a possibility of something!

The band are definitely a hard-working bunch, since releasing "Edward" back in April 2013 and before that in 2012 a demo, they're so far pitching in at one song a year, but we can't wait to hear more from them. I do remember the band having a certain Surf-Pop sound to them, but it's not much a departure to Fuzz from there!

Elliott Smith unveils "Ocean", a track he wrote at the age of 14

Found via CoS, Elliott Smith has unveiled "Ocean", a track he wrote and recorded at the tender age of just 14! So, some background on the track would be that it was recorded way back in 1984 when Smith was just 14 years old, the keyboard-heavy, slightly folksy number is shown off here in some 80's lo-fi fashion!
