Deap Vally will release their début album, "Sistrionix", on June 24th via Island/Communion Records.

Recorded with producer Lars Stalfors (The Mars Volta) in the band’s hometown, Los Angeles, the album’s 11 songs of visceral, heart-churning rock‘n’roll demonstrate why Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards are fast emerging as one of the most talked-about new bands on the planet.

The release of "Sistrionix" will be preceded by a single, "Baby I Call Hell", on June 17th.

Deap Vally announce headline show at Scala!

Deap Vally have confirmed a London headline show for this May. Following last month’s superb, sold-out Dingwalls show, the band will return to play London’s Scala on May 22nd with support from The Family Rain.

The confirmation of May’s Scala show follows last night’s announcement that Deap Vally will appear on the Radio 1/NME Stage at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Tickets for Deap Vally at The Scala on May 22nd will go on general sale this Friday (March 15th), at 9am, priced at £11, from the link at the bottom of the post.

Deap Vally unveil video for new single "Lies"

"Lies" will be released as a 7" single and download with the B-Side being "EZ Cum", and, like all the band's output to date - from first demos to their upcoming début album - has been produced by Lars Stelfors (The Mars Volta). The single was mixed by Grammy winning engineer Robert Orton.

Track of the week... Deap Vally - Lies

Bringing rock-hard grit and all-girl soul from the San Fernando Valley, Deap Vally is made up of the howl of Lindsey Troy and the rhythm of Julie Edwards. The song below is a prime example of what two girls who cite Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, White Stripes, The Rolling Stones and The Black Keys as influences, and with bags full of attitude can do when they put their mind to it.

"Lies" was produced by Lars Stelfors of The Mars Volta, and you can clearly tell that his influence on the duo has rubbed off. The track is just the two of them in a studio, but with a lot more of a polished sound since the early demos. The song isn't out until February 25th, but until then you can listen to this song on repeat, like what we've been doing!

'Gonna Make My Own Money' is pure Rock'n'Roll with it's I can do everything attitude, distorted vocals and simplistic approach to the music, just two instruments but imagine them as the heavy cousins of Blood Red Shoes and there you go! The girls have supported The Vaccines, played Reading and Leeds festival and have also toured the UK relentlessly supporting a whole host of other bands and even played their own shows!

Gig Review... Deap Vally @ Apollo, Manchester, 21st November 2012

“Camel toe? I invented the camel toe honey!” grins Deap Vally lead singer Lindsay Troy before taking a hearty gulp of some gruesome looking wine. Indecent questions from frisky Mancunians aside, this is not the typical behaviour you’d expect from two girls who met at crochet class in Los Angeles.

Unleashing a guitar so filthy that it’s likely to leave you sobbing in the shower for a good few days afterwards, over some beautifully off-kilter drums played by the fiery temptress that is Julie Edwards made for some rather enthralling viewing. (And judging by the bewildered faces on the legions of teenage girls waiting for The Vaccines they obviously made quite an impression).

Troy (who’s attire Xenia the Warrior would surely be proud of) is everything you could ever wish for in a front woman and more. She led the assault with some of the most glorious face-melting guitar riffs your ever likely to encounter for a long time to come. The influence of their icon Jimmy Page is clearly evident in their music, but unfortunately there wasn’t to be any thirty-minute impromptu guitar solos midway through their performance though.

Edwards’ drumming style can only really be described as that of a sumptuous swan, her limbs and luscious red locks were flailing in the sexiest of manners. Although there certainly was nothing delicate about the outcome oh no, nonchalantly producing the thunderous beats needed to back up the extremely fearsome guitar noodling. These are definitely the type of girls your parents told you to avoid when you were younger. (This dastardly duo even plays barefoot when onstage, “We were nearly arrested the last time we visited Manchester” Edwards declared with a little giggle. No wonder Ladies!)

“So are you gonna please me, like you swore you would?” snarls Troy in ‘Baby I Call Hell’, this no doubt made many in attendance rather hot under the collar and left many teenage boys not knowing where to look. You could have cut the sexual tension in the room with a knife. The deathly stomp of new single ‘End Of The World’ sounded like a herd of enraged elephants that have somehow been squeezed into a three-minute song. Scary stuff indeed. But luckily Lindsay is at hand to offer some comforting words “Hate is a parasite, hate will eat us alive.” Ah Maybe not then . . .

Deap Vally will be unleashing their debut album early next year, and on the basis of this show alone expect it to be frighteningly brilliant. Joan Jett once said “I think there’s nothing better than seeing a three-chord straight up rock n’ roll band in your face with sweaty music and three minute good songs” it seems Deap Vally are certainly on the right tracks then.

Interview... with Deap Vally

After a series of highly successful summer U.K tour dates, which included a
dominating performance on the festival republic stage at Reading and Leeds
earlier this year, Deap Vally have certainly made a lasting impression with their
fierce brand of rock n’ roll. And with a forthcoming support slot for The Vaccines
in November, times are looking incredibly bright for the female L.A. duo.

Hey Girls, please could you tell us the story of how you two met and
what inspired you to make music?

Lindsey wandered into a crochet class I was teaching one fateful night. I
taught her single and double crochet, and she was a quick learner, and we
shared war stories of music projects past, and the rest is history.

Who would you cite as the band’s main musical influences and why?

Led Zeppelin cuz they are the masters of conjuring with rock. They are
heavy, simple, yet so tasty and tasteful and creative. And they are (were?)
sex gods.

You’ve been touring quite a lot recently, so please could you tell us
what your favourite ever show was and why?

Favourite show so far is probably the Rock En Seine Festival in Paris. There
were thousands of people there, and even though we were new to them, they
were so generous and fed us so much great energy. It was an exhilarating
show.

What other artists/bands are you currently loving right now?

Black Angels, JUJU

What’s the local music scene like where you’re from in Los Angeles?

There are a million scenes in LA. Some bands we've loved playing with are
Nightmare and the Cat, JUJU, Gothic Tropic, the Vim Dicta, Alexandra and
the Starlight Band. Also-- there's this great sort of classic rock/ psych scene
starting to emerge at these Moon Block Party events. Really interesting,
inspiring bands like Dagha Bloom, Mr. Elevator and the Brain Hotel, and
Runson Willis and the Experimentalists.

I read somewhere that you originally started off as a three-piece but
lost the bassist when they were unavailable for touring, would you ever think about reversing this move or are you happy with how things are for the foreseeable future?

For now we are just a two headed dog. The day may come when we find the
most groovy, heaviest, most pockety lady bassist and really fuck shit up. But
only when the time is right and the prophecy says it is so.

And finally, could you tell us what your plans are for your début album?

Well, we just finished tracking it this month before we headed to CMJ! It will
be coming out early next year. Very very exciting. Hope you all love it!

Deap Vally unveil new video for 'End Of The World'

Californian duo Lindsey Troy (vocals, guitar) & Julie Edwards (drums) aka Deap Vally have unveiled the video for their brand new single 'End Of The World' over on their YouTube channel here.

The single - which premiered as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record on BBC Radio One on Wednesday night - will be released on the 19th November. It follows Lindsay & Julie's debut single 'Gonna Make My Own Money', which came out earlier in the summer via Ark Records.

Festival Review... Reading Festival, 26th August 2012

The last and final day of the 2012 edition of the Reading Fesitval was met with me feeling a little overwhelmed by the amount of amazing acts on show. But with one more day left I was more than up for making it a great day!

The Cast Of Cheers and Deap Vally were the first two bands I saw on the last day. Both were outside of their home countries yet they both still manage to capture the sparkle of the festival and drag in an amazing crowd. Deap Vally was such an exciting band to see, a Rock'n'Roll version of Blood Red Shoes, these two girls knew how to keep the crowds attention.



After those two bands I want over to the BBC Introducing Stage to get my fix of Un-Signed (and as of yet unknown bands). The Establishment was a band I knew literally nothing about, not my sort of music, they seemed like a re-born version of REM, nice to listen to but didn't capture my imagination. Now Seasfire certainly done that!


Out #1 band to see at the festival we just had to be there (dead centre on the barrier to be exact) for what was our highlight of the weekend. Seasfire played; 'We Will Wake', 'You Won't Be', 'How Do You Sleep', 'Falling', 'Heartbeat' and closed out on 'Hold You Like No Other'. They started off with a standard crowd, just a few people who already knew of them and passers by. After the first song finished I had a quick glance around and saw the crowd effectively double. The vocals were crisp as ever, the guitar riffs as elegant as ever and the drums and samples/keys as smooth as ever. This band definitely know how to play live. I'll be sure to catch them soon!



After Seasfire played it was the turn of the 'secret' act, Chinese whispers, rumours and general guessing had everyone thinking it was Ed Sheeran, no idea why but in the end it was an acoustic set from Two Cinema Club, they played Sleep Alone, 'Undercover Martyn' and 'What You Know' before preparing for their slot on the Radio1/NME stage.

The night ended up with The Black Keys and Foo Fighters playing the Main Stage. The band played a two-and-a-half hour set with a setlist that differed wildly from their 21-song effort at Leeds Festival on Friday this time being 5 songs longer, with a few side attractions like Dave's story of being in Nirvana and his mothers birthday. All in all they were what I expected, stunning, amazing and down right beautiful to listen to!

Deap Vally add extra London headline show to tour

Deap Vally arrive in the UK next week for their first ever UK tour. The LA duo, comprising Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards, made their début in London last month to great acclaim, and are now set to return for a full run, with headline dates and festival shows around the country.



The duo have this morning announced details of a second London headline show, following the sell-out of their Tamesis Dock gig next Wednesday (22nd August). Lindsey & Julie will now play London's Sebright Arms on Monday, 10th September.

Ones to watch at Reading Festival - #2 - Deap Vally

We've heavily featured Deap Vally ever since we caught wind of their existence, and for good reasons! The two-piece Rock'n'Roll band from California are breaking waves over the pond in the UK. After playing the home of new bands; The Old Blue last, Hyde Park and playing to thousands of people in Henham Park at Latitude they've certainly been keeping themselves busy in the UK with lots of high energy shows!



We've heard only good things about them since they've been in the UK, they play a high octane bunch of songs and even though they are just a two woman band they've certainly been able to convince the sceptics about their credentials. We'll be watching them for sure! I've already missed them playing London twice and all I know is I'll not be missing out on them rocking up the stage on Sunday!

Deap Vally are paying the Festival Republic Stage on Sunday 26th August right after The Cast of Cheers.

Deap Vally release video for their debut single

Lindsey Troy & Julie Edwards aka Deap Vally have this morning unveiled the much-anticipated video for their début single 'Gonna Make My Own Money'. The video was shot earlier this year in the scorching heat of California's San Fernando Valley by Pablo Balderas and features a cameo from a beautiful 1970s Mustang.

The new demo from Cambridge outfit Carousels has dropped and it is certainly tasty! More Teenage Fanclub than their earlier stuff, but the result us smacked us right between the eyes.



It's All Indie: Rapids - 'Got Hearte'
Since the last EP they've got a bit more Indie-Pop/Tropical compared to the two previous releases. But this track; 'Got Hearte' stands out from the crowd just like 'Littleblood' did last year. The Math-Rock drumming are (as always) amazing to listen to, the guitar tones are memorizing and the whole song ebbs and flows and then bursts in the choruses. Slate The Disco: Passion Pit - 'I'll be Alright'
Passion Pit have revealed another new track. ‘I’ll Be Alright’ will be taken off the forthcoming album ‘Gossamer’ which is due for release in July.
It is the second single to revealed from the new record after ‘Take A Walk’ was premiered last month.





It's All Indie: Get People 'Grove'
Get People have their Ep launch today, and to celebrate this we're giving away a free mp3. This new song called 'Grove' is taken off that EP. It's a haunting synthy track filled with acid and nightmares. This is something you'd want to put on in the dead of night, just spellbinding!
