[IAI EXCLUSIVE] THE KONINCKS - "While I'm Listening To My Breath" - FULL ALBUM STREAM & INTERVIEW
It's the album of the week definetely. One-girl-rest-all-boys-bands are up and coming all over. If you're not focused about the still very hidden music scene then you're not completely wrong if you're saying "I don't know anything about up and coming music from non-english-first-language-speaking rocknroll bands man". You can change completely if you want. TODAY. Hurray switzerland, The Konincks are aiming for breaking tambourine in two and stick em up your asses. All over. Theremins as dessert up-and-following. Letting farfisas sounding big and not as it used to for small 50-100 people garage clubs is something you can do if you have balls and strew them all over the floor. And it's not you as a band to gather them again. To collect all your sweat after you've finished a show. It's inserting the thought (brainwash perhaps?), making the audience or the listener think "Goddamn, I need to see, hear, feel these guitars - organs - tremolos - all frequencies actually". It's a class production. Not too classy as this rather vintage sounding record WILTMB is aiming for the mid-big stages. Musicvenues shall shook and rumble baby as soon as Julia and her boys coming up and begin to to do what they can do best. Being silly and very bluesy on stage. If the lately past away King would be proud of these guys and if Michael Hirte should take some serious lessons of the bands bluesharpist... we can only guess. "Creamy" solid short-time-period-Led-Zep-sounding crunchful-CCR-tasting debut album. A-Class womanvox with a-class boyband. That's it, that's all folks.

What's Swiss about you guys?
- I absolutely hate it when showtime is dealyed. People came for you, people paid for you. So I guess every band should have the decency to get punctual on stage.
How many times you had for the longest vocal take?
- I tend to put away clocks in the studio. But I remember getting really angry about myself on the titeltrack „While I'm Listening To My Breath“. At some point I thought I've written something that I'm not able to sing myself. Well all in all there are always songs that tickle your confidence but you get along anyway. Not only because you have to also 'cause you want to.
Worst and favourite song on the new one?
- That's a tricky one! Uhm... There is no such thing as a worst or a favourite song. When I'm in a rather jazzy/bluesy mood I like „Better“, when I feel epic I'd propably listen to „Withering“ or „Told You So“. I'm not sure, I never listen the album now. It makes me jittery.
First time in the studio if yes, what did you learn?
- No, it wasn't. All four of us have had some studio experience. The first time we've been together as a band in the studio was for our EP „Electric Brew“ in 2014. But of course still, we learned a lot – you always do when you have to grapple with yourself. The most important lession for me personally was maybe to learn to just shut the fuck and make music. Dialogues and discussions within the band are essential, yeah, but sometimes we just have to play and everything takes its course.
Any words about the Swiss music scene?
- Depends on which scene you're talking about. There's the one with shitty mainstream bands and the one that is incredibly talented and aspiring. No, seriously. The current situation in new pop music isn't too bad, I guess. But yet the blues rock scene in Switzerland isn't awake media-wise. There are few magazines or blogs and radios worry about kick-ass guitar solos. But I have to say that there are some bands as „Forks“ from Vevey or „Who's Panda“ which are most underrated. You know, maybe it's naiv but I'm still convinced that it'll be enough to write songs, to play 'em and touch people with real music. We'll get by [grins].

[TRACK OF THE WEEK] Barns Courtney - Glitter & Gold
Barns has been in a couple of bands we've loved, and we're going to keep that secret for now, but his first track as a solo artist is simple astonishing! After having a rough few months at the end of 2014 he's got a load of song ideas floating about and "Glitter & Gold" is a massive anthem for him to launch himself onto the scene with.
He's even been known to pop down to Scala in London to do rap battles with his guitar, and winning loads of fans over, no doubt readying himself for what's to come. He's currently supporting Ed Sheeran in the USA, in some massive venues, has previously been touring with The Libertines and has signed a deal with Virgin Records, so there's one thing that's for sure, he's going to be known by everyone in the next few months. "Glitter & Gold" is a pure Blues-Rock anthem written, by the sounds of it, ready for the venues he's aspiring to play, arenas!
There is no doubt Barns has talent, keep a close eye on him, he's going to be massive!

Frida Selander releases "Like a Cat" video
It's been a while since a Swedish act has got us excited, well actually I think it's been a week, but that's just more proof that the music scene in Sweden is astonishingly strong! "Like A Cat is" the first single from Frida Selanders' anticipated album "I Hear Sunshine".
Four years have passed since her last album Try Again Baby, and we now finally get to know what has happened. Frida sends word: "Like A Cat is the song that opens I Hear Sunshine. It comes with the summer, with the light, with the blooming trees and the pink clouds. I've opened my hands, I've lifted my eyes. I'm here. Like A Cat opens up for something new. Invite it in. Lay yourself down. You're a cat, just like me. Sprawl on the sofa, in the sun. Look at the sky, look at the clouds. There's nothing to understand, you can only feel it."

[LISTEN] Gold Jacks - Take It Back
Whilst there are many who believe Manchester’s Gold Jacks were conceived through a shared appreciation of crunchy, lo-fi blues, and borne out of mutual respect for their City’s less salubrious watering holes, the fact remains that this was merely a cover story; a well-timed façade that has allowed both the true identities, and the true intentions of the band to remain hidden until the time came for their real purpose to be revealed. That purpose? To resuscitate the still-twitching corpse of the UK’s alternative scene before it’s picked clean by the commercial carrion crows that populate the Top 40.
Following on from ‘One Kinda Women’, their latest offering ‘Take It Back’ sees Gold Jacks slowing the pace and allowing the sultry sleaze of pure guitar-driven rock to slip through the track’s intentional pauses, in turn brought about by a deft understanding of musical spacial awareness. The apparent simplicity offset by Stewart Burns’ impassioned vocal.

Jamie N Commons covers "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin
Earlier on this year Nothing But Thieves covered "Holding Out For A Hero" for a trailer of the new Game of Thrones series, and now Jamie N Commons has also recorded a cover for the TV show. This time round covering a classic by Led Zeppelin, none other than "Immigrant Song".

EP Review... Palace - 'Lost In The Night'
Palace's debut EP 'Lost In The Night' is a gleaming gem in the crown of an indie music scene currently obsessed with making replica's of guitar bands been and gone, or drenching themselves in psychedelic groove.
Whilst the London ensemble do have bundles of groove to them, it's refreshingly unexpected. The throwback to blues and soft rock is a gentle and pleasant surprise to energetic indie-ears. 'Bitter' is the lead track, and arguably up there with some of the greatest sounds of the year. The raw hear-felt vocals are hard to go a miss, as is the climactic, jumbled instrumental ending.
The rest of the EP is fairly tender, with 'I Want What You Got' and 'Ocean Deep' still exploiting those quickly identifiable vocals. Essentially, the true beauty of Palace is never quite reached until you meet 'Veins'. It's a lullaby track you'd expect to find from the depths of a dusty antique store, still crackling on a record player as it did all those years before. Final number, 'Lost In The Night' rounds of a promising debut, with it's outro of percussion and fret-bending woes.
An EP as honest as ever, there's more than a gap on the record store shelf for Palace. That's so long as they don't get sucked into mainstream obscurity and keep their archaic, alternative blues-driven melodies refreshing and cool.

XYLO unveil first demo "Man On The Moon"
XYLO have been forged via they consist of Alfie Jackson, Barnaby Courtney Moyses, Dos Santos, Nathan Coen and Henrik Fossum. At the heart of the band is the songwriting of Alfie Jackson and Barnaby Courtney which has helped to create this song, their first to be heard by the general public.
It's a bluesy track infused with some great rock riffs, reminds us of Tribes initial work, but lets all be honest, this track has some really strong vocals! Scroll on down to check out the first track from the melodic XYLO.

Album Review... Royal Blood - Royal Blood
In recent years the music industry has been submerged in two-piece bands and their ability to produce equally, if not more impressive music than the conventional four of five piece. From The White Stripes, to The Black Keys, to the more recent duo of Drenge, Royal Blood should find it hard to follow in their footsteps. This isn't the case, as the sound that comes from the drums of Ben Thatcher and the bass guitar of Michael Kerr is enough to blow away anything else a duo has produced before. Their self-titled album is an exciting piece of modern, alternative rock that has genius bulging through it's seams.
Full force, 'Out Of The Black', bursts in with a fitting 90s Limp Bizkit inspired WWE kind of entrance. Whilst the bass is as big as the entrance to the album, 'Come On Over', follows up with a more vigorous pacey riff. You wouldn't be questioned for mistaking the 4 stringed rusty bass, for a ferocious 6 stringed electric guitar but somehow Michael Kerr has mastered this act, wavering his fingers over the bass frets in the intense chorus lead up in 'Figure It Out'. The opening trio, along with 'Little Monster', which includes Ben Thatcher's highlight as he hits one of the finest, short but sweet drum solos, have all been heard before but nevertheless trigger the same level of reckless head banging.
In an age where rock music is no longer the force it used to be, Royal Blood get all the recognition they deserve, and it's not just 'cause Kerr looks fucking cool coated in a leather jacket and wielding a bass guitar like Zeus' lightning bolt. It's their effortless ability to turn what could easily be a luck-lustre jamming session into an exhilarating, alternative rock 'n' roll record.
'You Can Be So Cruel' is a a prime example. After the whirlwind opening of an album, it plods along at a gentle pace, edging to the side of blues with haunting background vocals that could've been written by Josh Homme. 'Blood Hands' is similarly timid on the outside but still includes the core elements of Royal Blood's close to becoming customary sound. It's these stiller moments, woven in between the raucous affairs of 'Figure It Out' and 'Little Monster' that are at Royal Blood's peak and make it hard to believe that this is the Brighton duo's first swing at the merry-go-round game of the music industry, of which they're currently winning.
They even craftily get away with 'Loose Change' which is almost the voice muffler edition of 'Harder To Breathe' by Maroon 5, until half way through it snaps out of the ball-squeezingly high vocals and regimented guitar to let loose on a grainy and scratchy riff. Travelling back in time in 'Careless', a more authentic rock n roll, heavily Led Zeppelin influence sound is adopted, accompanied by yet another version of the distorted monster bass. The notch on the distortion appears to have broken by 'Ten Tonne Skeleton' which is only saved by the memorable lyrics 'cut loose like an animal, fire up like a cannon ball' which will be one of the many that fans are likely to routinely chant at their next Royal Blood gig whilst being pelted in the face with a fist full of bass.
As Alex Turner infamously said earlier this year The Brit Awards, 'That rock 'n' roll just won't go away'. Six months later and Royal Blood (having supported Turner and co. at Finsbury Park earlier this year), have released the record to firmly restore an interest in rock 'n' roll and a two-piece band fully worth worshipping.

The Black Keys reveal video for "Weight Of Love"
The Black Keys have unveiled the video for "Weight Of Love", and the duo have recruited a gorgeous Aussie model for the video too, so a bit of eye candy for the fellas! Having recently released their latest album "Turn Blue" earlier on this year they're set to go out on a 5 date jaunt next year around the arenas of the UK.

Introducing... Heavy Hearts
Having already posted about this band you may be forgiven that I already love this youthful band, too right! They have the right combination of influences to create a sound that is their own. With the female vocals combining with the jangly guitars and fast drumming this is one of those hidden gems in my music library.
Their musical ability is proven to be strong in their recordings, such as the song below suggests Heavy Hearts are here to stamp their sound into your head and give you some great tracks to listen to. 'Noughts & Crosses' and 'Take Some Time' are two of their strongest tracks, and you can easily hear why I love the tracks, just go see them play live, well worth the trip!

Gig Review... Heavy Hearts @ The Cresset, Peterborough, 20th September 2011
One thing I do like about going to gigs is finding those young bands that have only just started out, and an added bonus is they already sound amazing. Heavy Hearts was one of those bands. Second on after a fairly Pop-Rock band that sounds like a You Me At Six support act they certainly blew be away regarding their sound!
I instantly thought - within the first 3 songs - that they sound like the perfect combination of a jazzy Foals and a bluesy Florence + The Machine! With such a soulful voice coming from their front-woman Rosie you would've thought that they have been playing live for a while, right? Nope, I found out after the gig from their guitarist (Josh) that this is their 7th ever gig. Amazing considering the whole band is so tight while playing their songs, what's more is that they played all of their own songs, something that I like from a new band. I'd keep an eye on these guys if I were you!

Introducing... Pete Kosanovich
Pete Kosanovich is currently on a solo tour, literally, he is a one man band (Guitar, Harmonica and Vocals). I saw him at The Square in Harlow not so long ago and thought he done a great performance considering his pick-up wasn't working. Enough of the mis-fortunes, how about some positives. I bought his album for only £5 and thought it was well worth the price.
The best track on the album is 'I'll Be Waiting', that track sealed the deal for me after I heard him play it live, the performance doesn't drop below brilliant. With a Harmonica singing away in the chorus it's a break from the norm and it's a welcomed change. This is a young man from London that you should keep an eye out for, great stuff here!
