[ALBUM REVIEW] Hippo Campus - Bashful Creatures

Hippo Campus are guitarist and vocalist Jake Luppen, bassist Zach Sutton, drummer Whistler Allen and guitarist Nathan Stocker. They are all from Minnesota and signed to Transgressive. Their debut-ep is called Bashful Creatures and it is a journey in a light-indie landscape where exotic sunshine lights up seven beautiful songs.

The ep begins with Sophie So, a charming track where a guitar riff that reminds Bombay Bicycle Club' sound is the perfect ground to a voice with glares of Kooks' Luke Pitchard. Little Grace is a joyful song just like Souls that has inflections of Vampire Weekends. Suicide Saturday is more sad with a dream-pop background, Opportunistic and the title-track maintain the fashination and happyness of the rest of the ep.
