Ali Barter covers Tame Impala ''Cause I'm A Man" for Triple J

Melbourne's indie-rock songstress Ali Barter popped into Triple J recently and covered a track of - Australia's finest - Tame Impala's "Cause I'm A Man" and pulled it off with Impala fans all over twitter loving it!

Just head on down and check it out, I'm definitely loving it, and do listen to more of her music, I do hope she tours the UK soon!

Kevin Parker (of Tame Impala) is working on new music

It's been revealed that Tame Impala's very own Kevin Parker is working on new music! At the yearly APRA awards he said - "I don’t really know what it is until it’s finished, like I don’t know if it’s for Tame Impala or if it’s something I’m going to write for someone else, because I’ve been wanting to do that a lot more.

I think after a long tour and after an album, your brain feels like it wants to relax but at the same time making music for me is something that comes kind of naturally. Just like a brain process. I’m trying not to work on stuff but there are always things to do. I always manage to keep myself busy."

Watch The DuBarrys brand new video for "Catch The Rider"

Festival review… Lollapalooza Berlin 2015

When in November 2014 we heard the news that Lollapalooza would be heading to Europe for the first time ever a buzz went through It's All Indie HQ. We were extremely excited and pleased to be able to welcome the American spectacle in 2015. 

10 months on, I travelled to Berlin to see if Lollapalooza would live up to our expectations. 

Located at Berlin's now disused Tempelhof airport, the festival sports a vibrant, urban feel with the old terminal and runway giving it a unique vibe. 

As expected of Lollapalooza the line-up was very impressive featuring international bands of the highest quality.

Saturday

My Lollapalooza weekend kicked off with a loud, energetic set by US band Joywave who clearly had a lot of fun interacting with their fans. "We're the biggest band to come out of the USA in the 21st century - don't double check that on Google", they announced before telling the crowd that they hadn't been able to get into Berghain (Berlin's most famous nightclub) the night before. Considering their very unfavourable stage time (13:10) they managed to attract a good crowd thus engendering a great start to the festival. 

Joywave kick off our Lolla experience

I continued with Glass Animals and their groovy unorthodox sound. Performing on the Alternative Stage to a big crowd the band's calm sound made sure everyone survived the scorching lunchtime sun in style.

Newly founded supergroup FFS (Franz Ferdinand & Sparks) attracted a massive crowd which seemed to know the lyrics to every song. The Franz Ferdinand tracks performed definitely provoked the biggest reaction with people everywhere dancing to the sounds of one of the best indie bands ever to grace the stage. FFS song "Collaborations Don't Work" showed everyone watching the band(s) perform that if there is such a thing as a near-perfect match in music, then Sparks and Franz Ferdinand may have found just that.

I remember reading a magazine on a flight home with Pete Doherty on the cover when, mid flight, the girl sitting next to me asked whether he had died. Amy Winehouse had just passed away and the question seemed chilling, yet justified. It was then that I figured I would probably never get to see the incredible Libertines live. Years later it's happened. After cancelling their London and Manchester shows the days before, it was unclear whether the band would perform in the first place. When they did come on stage, however, it was obvious to the crowd that this was a moment they had to enjoy and cherish - their second chance may not come again too soon. Musically the band weren't at their best. An absolutely drunk Carl Barat slurred into his microphone and the band made various mistakes throughout - much to each other's amusement. Macklemore playing at the same time meant that mostly only "real" Libertines fans had come to see the London band creating a Libertine-esque intimate atmosphere on the old airfield. Each of the band's old songs received loud sing alongs with "Gunga Din" proving to be the highlight of their new album. The band returned to the stage with two encores before drummer Gary Powell used the empty, post-gig stage to stomp around and perform a weird dance to the amused crowd.

Pete Doherty looked shaken but happy when returning to his dressing room located inside the old airport terminal building.

Sunday

My second and last day at Lollapalooza saw Wolf Alice start the action on the Main Stage 1, where they performed their last festival show of their, very busy and spectacular summer. The London band used the opportunity to say thank you to their fans on numerous occasions in between their loud, aggressive songs.

Up next for me was Spanish band Crystal Fighters, who kicked off nearly an hour late after being stuck in traffic. This didn't stop the crowd from going wild with the band when they did finally start their set. Performing just two days after  the anniversary of the passing away of their former drummer Andrea Marongiu the band showcased a mix of tracks from both their debut "Star Of Love" and follow-up "Cave Rave". Giant (really really really giant) beach balls thrown into their crowd further lifted the mood of their partying fans. Their unique sound perfectly fitted the Berlin afternoon sun and made sure that everyone in attendance enjoyed the, possibly, last days of summer. 

I once wrote the following about MGMT: "Throughout the whole concert I couldn't help thinking that this is a band now actually exploring that long-elusive dark side of the moon."
Since the same goes for Tame Impala and I'd hate to repeat myself unnecessarily so I'm going to leave it at that. The Australian band are a spectacle which has to be seen live. Taking to the stage in what was their last festival appearance of the summer, the band performed a set of the high quality their fans expect.

After attending festivals in the UK, Central Europe and Japan I can only recommend a visit to Lollapalooza 2016 - in my opinion it may just be the best festival you can attend next summer.

Bestival 2015: The festival's must see acts

Summer is reaching it's demise, school, college or University beckon for many, and the greatest season of them all - Festival Season - is coming to an end.

But fortunately - for the lucky few who have decided to make the lengthy treck to the Isle of Wight - there is still one major festival left to enjoy.

So, if you are heading to Bestival 2015 this weekend, here are It's All Indie's Top 5 must see acts.

1. Sleaford Mods: The Big Top, Saturday, 9pm

Although the anti-establishment growl of their twitchy mouth-piece has, at times, racked-up more column-inches over the last year than their musical output, Nottingham-duo, Sleaford Mods are the most lyrically sincere and genuinely exciting bands to challenge Torrie-Britain and the status-quo since The Sex Pistols. 

Driven by angst, but backed by a juxtaposing minamilistic stage set-up of a mere laptop-come-beat-machine, accompanied by a beer-wielding counterpart, Sleaford Mods are a formidable festival force, who's live set is surprisingly, yet utterly entertaining - and every concoction of words that Jason Williamson spits at you, will be the truest you'll hear all weekend. 

And with fellow punk-duo/Radio 1 golden boys, Slaves, appearing on the same stage just prior to them, expect to be treated to a list of comedic expletives fired at their Big Top predecessors as soon as Williamson grabs the mic. 

2. Animal Noise: Caravanserai, Friday 12.40am 

They may have been in the game for a few years now, but Colchester's swampy-funk sweethearts, Animal Noise - in the wake of signing to Sony Europe and being playlisted on Radio 1 - are finally starting to reach out to the audiences and obtain the acclaim that their left-field acoustic-folk stomp warrants. They may be new to the prestigious festival circuit and many of the ears that will hear them this weekend, but the spark that they'll ignite amongst the abundance of arm-yielding festival-goers upon finding their scatty rhythm, will leave you declaring them your new favourite band. 

3. Charli XCX: Main Stage, Friday 6.15pm

Having somewhat lived in the shadows of the megastars that she's been writing hits for over the past couple of years, the past 12 months has finally seen Charli XCX blossom into the sultry and commanding popstar that her infectious song writing ability would have you suggest. And after a series of high-profile and critically acclaimed festival slots to her name already this year, expect her Bestival set to be the best possible way to wave goodbye to her and your festival season.

4. Tame Impala: The Big Top, Friday 11.30pm

Despite playing the festival's graveyard shift, Kevin Parker's acid-draped gang of psych-mind-manipulators will prove a hit with all those tripping at the sight of the bands kaleidoscope on-screen visuals - entirely soundtracked by the swirling, time-travelling phaser-draped perfection of their new album, 'Currents'. 

5. The Bohicas: Invaders of the Future, Saturday 11pm

With little in the way of gritty, straight-up guitar bands at this years Bestival, Domino's latest exports, The Bohicas will be looking to turn heads and capitalise on the indie-loving festival-goers, yearning for a piece of 2006. Who knows, it might just be their crowning moment - and it might just be the incarnation indie's next leather jacket-heroes.

Tame Impala have today revealed a 'Haim Remix' of "'Casuse I'm A Man", but it's basically a cover of the track by the sisterly trio. The track was premièred via Huw Stephens' BBC Radio 1 show earlier on today.

It's more of a reworking/remix rather a cover, but do let us know what you think of it!

Tame Impala score top 5 UK album

Tame Impala today achieved a great #3 spot in the UK album's chart, only being beaten by Years & Years at number one (for the second week running) and Ed Sheeran's "X" which seems to be STILL in the charts 57 weeks after the release - kids eh!

James Bay, Hozier and Fleetwood Mac are all still in the top 20 as a result of some major UK festival appearances, and Catfish and The Bottlemen sneek back into the top 20 with a new placing at #19.

Stream Tame Impala's new song "Eventually"

Yesterday you were able to listen to 90 seconds of Tame Impala's new track "Eventually", and by the time I shut my computer down, slept a bit, it popped up in full all over YouTube! It's more of the back to basics Tame Impala that got them their huge fanbase, with some steady percussion and a mild approach to their psychedelic sound we're expecting this to be the 'slow jam' on the album.

"Currents" is out July 17th via Fiction Records.

Tame Impala reveal new cut "Disciples"

Staying with the sound of the other two tracks from their forthcoming album, their new cut "Disciples" pitches in at under two minutes long! However, the track certainly has a great hazey feel to it which is exactly what I'm looking for in a summer anthem!

Tame Impala reveal new album "Currents" [IAI PREVIEW]

Australia's Psychedelic legends Tame Impala have today revealed their brand new single, "Cause I'm A Man", and have also revealed their brand new album "Currents". The release date of the single is April 7th, via iTunes, but there is - as of writing this - no announcement on when the LP is to be released. Although expect it to be before the start of the Summer!

Tame Impala premiere new single 'Cause I'm A Man'

Without any warning Tame Impala have just unveiled the first official single from new album. It's official release date is Tuesday via Fiction Records.

Their third album will be called Currents and we are told will be released later this year. New single Cause I'm A Man is a synth-laden number and perfect Easter treat. Enjoy.

Tame Impala announce another UK date

The latest show Tame Impala have announced will be on the 8th of September in Glasgow's Barrowlands venue, just days before their Bestival slot, and just one day before their show in Liverpool. In a leaked email from their management (allegedly) said that the band will be releasing an album this year, so expect some more dates to follow!

Tame Impala's long-awaited third album is set to be out at some point in 2015! In am email to their subscribers it reads...

"Now, 2015 is going to be one helluva year.
And I know this because I’m privvy to some information about some truly amazing things happening that I think you’ll all love as much as we will.
There will be new albums from POND, Tame Impala, The Growl, Gunns, and Fascinator as well as tours and shows aplenty from everyone across the Spinning Top roster!"

Tame Impala's Kevin Parker joins forces with Mark Ronson on new track 'Daffodils'

Combining Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker's eery falsetto vocals with producer Mark Ronson's retro funky stylings, 'Daffodils' is the second track to be premiered to the public from his new album 'Uptown Funk'. Aired on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 slot, the track evolves in layers with a laid-back funk groove before reaching a state of futuristic synthesiser chaos.

The first track Ronson put out to the public was the album-titled 'Uptown Funk' that featured Bruno Mars and has already been hailed as one of the highlights of the 2014 popular music world. The album will feature other collaborations including Hudson Mohawke and Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt.

Tame Impala accused of plagiarism by an Argentinian pop-star

Tame Impala have been accused of plagiarising one of their biggest songs by an Argentinian pop-star. Pablo Ruiz is an Argentine pop singer who had his greatest success as a child star in the ’80s. He is making out that Tame Impala ripped off Ruiz’s 1989 single "Oceano".

Gig Review… Tame Impala @ Theaterfabrik, Munich, 9th July 2014

What an amazing week it's been for fans of psychedelic music. Pink Floyd announcing a new album got anyone with even the slightest interest in this trippy, colourful genre excited. And the week got even better for those psychedelica fans living in Munich.

Tame Impala are one of the - if not THE - biggest psychedelic acts in the world right now.
The Australian band kicked off their 90-minute set with "Be Above It". Accompanied by loud cheers they started their second song of the evening "Solitude Is Bliss". "You will never come close to how I feel", the crowd joined in. The, what seemed like, five people inside the venue (about 1000 people attended the gig) who weren't drugged up were treated to a similar experience as their fellow gig-goers by background visuals, that even Joshua's Light Show would have been proud of.

"Sestri Levante", which is featured on their recent live album was up next. "We came all the way from Berlin to see these guys and we're loving every second of this", I was told by two German students. And judging by the reaction the band provoked with "Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind" the rest of the crowd were also very much enjoying their evening.

The next two songs played by the genius Kevin Parker's band were "It Is Not Meant To Be" and "Why Won't They Talk To Me?" It was then that I realised that if MGMT's live gig took me to outer space, Tame Impala proved that there is a lot more to the universe than space. The second this thought crossed my mind I was thrown back into reality by the stomping intro to their most famous track "Elephant". The crowd seemed to come out of their chill out mode and went crazy, before being restored to inner peace with "Endors Toi". Between their following songs "Oscilly" and "Mind Mischief" Kevin Parker told his fans that the evening's concert had been the best one of their tour so far. Now I know bands always say that, but with someone like Kevin Parker I had the feeling that he was actually telling the truth. "We'll soon be back in Munich - we hope", he also told the crowd before playing their loudest song "Half Glass Full Of Wine".

The next song was very, very interesting. "It's not got a name yet. And it's got no lyrics. Just make up your own words", the band stated, before playing a song that could have been straight off Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side Of The Moon". Due to the background visuals the song kind of felt like Disneyland's space mountain gone wrong. The roller coaster seemed to have left the tracks and made it's own way through the stars. Their next song "Alter Ego" was supposed to be followed by a "crazy, fucking interlude", which was unfortunately cancelled out by technical difficulties. Instead, the fans were treated to "Apocalypse Dreams". Following this track the band left the stage, returning shortly after for an encore of "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards", which provoked a loud sing-along from the fans, and "Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control".

Tame Impala proved to me that, even in 2014, space travel is readily available to non-astronauts. You will never come close to how I felt.

18 Of The Best Tracks We Heard This Week (w/e 15th June)

So here we are, again. I made a vow, not to carry you home but to bring you the TEN best tracks we heard this week over at IAIHQ. It includes some bands you know, some you might not, amazing covers and slick new beats (yes slick).

Chloe Howl - Señorita

Check out Chlöe Howl cover Justin Timberlake's "Senorita", the cover was recorded at Dean Studios. A stripped back version of the song really does show off her vocal talents and clearly shows why so many people were tipping her in 2014. 




The Ramona Flowers - Vultures

The Ramona Flowers release the second single from their eagerly anticipated début album, "Dismantle and Rebuild".The album is released on July 14th through Distiller Records, "Vultures" is a heartfelt anthem, packed with the band’s powerfully delivered emotion. It marks the release of the album on the same day with a bold statement of what The Ramona Flowers do best!

 


The Wytches - The Holy Tightrope

The Wytches are backing up their new single - "Wire Frame Mattress" - with a b-side track, "The Holy Tightrope" which they recorded while on tour with Blood Red Shoes earlier on this year. The track which the band have labelled as 'Doom-Surf' is out on the 7" vinyl edition of the single on 7th of July.

Kevin Parker has uploaded a rare demo of Tame Impala's "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" - entitled as "Backwards first demo" it's an insight of how such a stripped back track can transform into something amazing.




Sunburns - Venice

Sunburns are a new band to us, a new German band coming from Cologne with fresh licks of guitar, upbeat rhythms and most of all, catchy vocal hooks. You can stream their stunning new song called "Venice" below! Just think of early Bombay Bicycle Club mixed in with some horns and piano, and you've pretty much got "Venice", such a great track to listen to when the sun is out!




Glass Caves - Walking On The Moon

Glass Caves have been around for four years now and slowly but surely are building a great fanbase, and one of those reasons is the covers they record. Today we have a great video of them covering The Police's "Walking On The Moon" acoustically.




Dorine Levy - Lenyrose

We introduced you to her early in the week. "Lenyrose" is taken from the self-produced début album "Underwater", the track sounds like it's been lifted from an album that The National has done with Sigor Ros. For fans of Lana Del Rey, Röyksopp and Jonsi
