[SOUNDS OF 2016] #3 - Racing Glaciers

Five-piece indie band Racing Glaciers have had an amazing 2015, with shows all over the UK and Europe alike they've grown vastly and have their debut album just around the corner in early 2016. They've also recently released their new single "Seems Like A Good Time". Embellished with continuous guitar parts and a driving drum beat, there's no doubt that this track has a catchy, rhythmic feel in an instant. The vocals complement the instrumentation effortlessly, ensuring that the lyrics are portrayed through a dynamic sentiment as well as through the powerful chorus. An eerie middle-8 exposes the stripped back vocals and harmonies, reflecting the overall mood of the track before building up to the strong chorus with the full timbre of instrumentation one last time.

This can be classed as their 'heavier' track, but with a couple of EPs behind them they've already got a whole heap of tracks to choose from when they perform, but "Seems Like A Good Time" and it's predessesor "What I Saw" are both two of their best pieces of work, and the duo of songs act as a major teaser for their 2016 LP.

They've been riding off the back of a wave of optimism and also even being included on the latest Transformers OST in 2014, the band from Macclesfield have it all going for them right about now! Combine that with theri early tracks such as "Animal" - which has some real emotion buried beneath the soaring post-rock riffs and melodies - so yeah, just listen to this and tell me they're destined for big things!

[LISTEN] Racing Glaciers - Seems Like A Good Time

Racing Glaciers announce extensive UK tour

Racing Glaciers have announced an extensive UK-wide tour that'll see them take in 30+ cities and venues from Bath and Brighton in the South of England to way up in the North of Scotland at Stornoway.

Racing Glaciers share new song "What I Saw"

Racing Glaciers are one of those bands that just seems to be churning out hit after hit, with no dip in form! Having said that, their latest cut "What I Saw" is their biggest anthem yet, starting off quiet and on a sombre note it eventually explodes into a wash of guitars and uplifting vocal hooks.

Sounds of 2015 - #12 - Racing Glaciers

Racing Glaciers are one of those bands that's been through thick and thin, and are still going. After releasing a fresh EP earlier on this year - "Ahead of You Forever" and "Don't Wait For Me" - they've been steadily picking up speed like a snowball gathering pace heading downhill. Their year arguably culminated with their song "VHS" doing really well in the HypeM charts as well as a whole lot of radio play and blog lovin'.

They've been riding off the back of a wave of optimism and also even being included on the latest Transformers OST the band from Macclesfield have it all going for them right about now! "Animal" has some real emotion buried beneath the soaring post-rock riffs and melodies, listen to this and tell me they're destined for big things! With an album's worth of material out there already to listen to I can see them penning more and more songs and getting into the studio next year, expect something big!

The Weekly Catch-Up (w/e 23rd August)

Yes it's that time of the week where we round-up the BEST new music that we've heard over the past 7 days (or so), we've got new stuff from Interpol, SBTRKT and something brand new from Aussie band New Navy!

SBTRKT

SBTRKT - War Drums (Featuring Warpiant)

This was recorded live at Maida Vale studios for Zane Lowe BBC Radio 1, the song appears on the album and is a collaboration with Warpaint's Emily Kokal Warpaint on vocals. The original version on SBTRKT's forthcoming album




New Navy - Rosaline

"Rosaline" is the first official single to be lifted from New Navy's forthcoming début LP. It's been a long time coming for fans of the band, and since we heard their song "Zimbabwe" on a Kitsune compilation album we've been big admirers of their dancable indie-pop anthems!




Sundara Karma - Indigo Puff

Following on from their stunning début single "Cold Heaven" which was released via the ever consistent Chess Club Records earlier this year, Reading's Sundara Karma have announced their brilliant new single "Indigo Puff" which is out on 6 October through 203 Recordings.

The huge song has an equally huge anthematic chorus and when I first heart it I was literally amazed! This single is once again going to be backed by a couple of shows, 24th September in Reading at BBC Introducing at Oakford and at London's Barfly the next day.




Rae Morris - Closer

From her early "Blue Print" demos we've been a fan of hers, and we even managed to catch her live back when she was opening for Bombay Bicycle Club. Since then she's gone on tour on her own, released some great EPs and has even provided guest vocals for Bombay Bicycle Club on their recent album.

Now she's back with another great piano-come-electronic tune "Closer", you can listen to it below, and if you fancy listening to her collaboration with Fryars you can click here for "Cold".

Kele Okereke - Closer

Bloc Party's front-man Kele Okereke has a brand new solo LP coming out in October, and after releasing a teaser for "Trick", he's released a full stream of the first single off the album, "Doubt".

Four years after his first solo LP came out this has a slightly more house flavour to it after his dabbling in the scene in the past 12 months. Not as electronic as his most recent material, but it's certainly great to hear his vocals again.




Interpol - Ancient Ways

Interpol have unveiled the latest track off their forthcoming album "El Pintor". You can stream "Ancient Ways" just below. The full album is out 8th September.

After a little break from this section of the site - Glastonbury - we're back with TEN more of the best tracks from the past 7 days, be ready, this one is well worth it!

Rae Morris - Cold (Jack Steadman Remix)

Jack Steadman of Bombay Bicycle Club has given Rae Morris' new track "Cold" a remix, and the results are great! Rae's début album is out on 22nd September, and she'll be touring the UK throughout that month including London’s Village Underground on 16th September.




Lovelife - Nova

After being driven around in a battered old Vauxhall for most of the 90's I already like this song as it reminds me of my young years. Unlike the red tin I was carted around in this "Nova" is a great new song by LA via London foursome Lovelife, who we've been somewhat been following since the early Every song they release is just bigger and better in every way, and with their latest effort including strings, thick bass-lines and Leonard's rough but soothing vocals you know this is going to go down a storm! Astronomyy - U Make Me Feel Good

Astronomyy this week revealed another brand new track called "U Make Me Feel Good", and it's going to be on his latest EP, of which, is out soon. This track is borderline several genres, and shows that Aaron is not afraid to explore his sounds.





Alt-J - Hunger Of The Pine

If you're a fan of Alt-J you will probably have heard their new song "Hunger Of The Pine". The song includes a sample of Miley Cyrus and was the first to be released from their coming album "This Is All Yours". You can check it out below!




Frankie & The Heartstrings - Stand on the Horizon

The band have recorded a cover Franz Ferdinand's "Stand on the Horizon" for the latter band's single of the same name. The single is out via Domino Records and you can check out the cover below, let us know what you think!

Earlier this week we had a really great band as our 'Daily Download', Racing Glaciers have slowly but surely been on the rise and most recently they've had their song feature in the new Transformers movie, not bad eh! Today you can get their latest summer jam "VHS" for free!






Club Kuru - Seesaw

After releasing their début track "All The Day" earlier this year, the relatively unknown band are back with another slab of electronic delight! Laurie Erskine's newest track is more in the RnB genre, but that doesn't stop it being an exciting track to listen to




Glass Animals - Love Lockdown

Earlier on this year Glass Animals covered Kanye's "Love Lockdown" for a radio session, and the band liked performing it so much they have recorded a proper studio version. The song's going to be appearing on their forthcoming "Pools" EP which is out July 21st.




Eagulls - I Wanna Be Adored

The Leeds band popped on over the pond earlier on this year to do a series of shows, and while there they performed a cover of The Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored" of AV Club. Scroll on down to check it out.




The Drums - Magic Mountain

Earlier in February this year, The Drums posted that album number three was finished. It's been three years since Jonny Pierce and co graced our ears with The Drum's second LP 'Portamento'. It was a sterling album much darker in mood than their debut self-titled release. Now it seems founding members Pierce and Graham have taken it one step further with 'Magic Mountain'.

Arctic Monkeys - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards

Alex Turner took to Australia's airwaves and performed a cover of Tame Impala's "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" for Triple J's 'Like a version' segment. You can listen to a snippet of an interview and the full song below.




The Away Days - Your Colour

The Istanbul based band have unveiled a brand new track, and just in time for summer too! The track has some lovely light guitar tones that instantly remind us of Foals' second album and warming vocals. The track has it all! ''Your Colour'' will be available digitally from 9th June by Partapart Records.




The Kooks - Bad Habit

The Kooks unveiled a new track that's set to feature on their new album - "Listens" - earlier last week.  "Bad Habit" isn't a Foals cover, so sorry for that one. But it's certainly the best off of their new LP.




Wild Cub - The Mother We Share

Wild Cub - made famous by their "Thunder Clatter" anthem - have covered CHVRCHES' "The Mother We Share", it was released to celebrate Mothers day in America, and you can also grab it as a free download too.




Hawklion - Africa

Hawklion may sound like a mythical creature to some, but to others they're an Indie band from Dublin. One of the finest un-signed bands Ireland has to offer, well for now anyway! After hearing this epic anthem I can see them going further, so pick up a free download of "Africa" now!




MNRS - Costs

MNRS is Berlin/London based Ben Mercer, and he has currently been touring around mainland Europe. The track was produced by by a member of I Heart Sharks as well, so you know this track has got electronics all over it!




Racing Glaciers - First Light

The Macclesfield post-rock outfit has also been confirmed for Radio 1's One Big Weekend where they'll be playing the new EP in full. We're really loving their latest track, and you can listen to it below, with a 'EP Teaser' below that too. Get ready to hear more about them in the coming months!




Jack Burrell - Flowers In Your Hair

We've seen Jack perform live a couple of times and we know that he has a soulful voice, so when he recorded and posted a cover of The Lumineers' "Flowers In Your Hair" we just fell in love with it! It's also a free download, so check it out and fall in love with this sweet voice!




Bear Hands - Peacekeeper (We The Wild Remix)

Bear Hands are releasing their new single "Peacekeeper" shortly and the duo over at We The Wild have re-worked the track into a electronic fest! Certainly one of the best remixes we've heard this year!




Thief - Cry Me A River

This is a previous 'Daily Download' and on the 6th we posted it! Thief has stripped back the verse to a simple bass line and hand clap, leaving room for his vocals to float effortlessly above, before leading into the brass fuelled, punchy chorus.
