[SINGLE REVIEW] XO - The Light

The phrase ‘the song of the summer’, year on year gets thrown about without any real depth to substantiate such an accolade. But, XO’s latest offering ‘The Light’ from the soon-to-be released ‘The Ethereal Experience EP’ may just be worthy of the crown. Gliding synths and distant vocals transports the listener to sunset beaches in the heart of Krabi Province. XO has genteelly crafted three notions that usually would not be seen in a track for the sun, escapism, slow-pace and summer. The Lights provides an element of escapism; the simplistic line ‘I guess I was happy’ resonates and breathes understated emotion into the song. Whilst the song may not be lyrically rich, it isn’t needed, the layers of sounds built up throughout portrays a varying spectrum of emotion that would rival any lyricist past or present.

It is always easy to lose yourself in a song and The Light is no exception, but there is intelligent self-awareness within the track that sets it apart from any other contender for the title. Much like the fear of returning to the working world after a heavy weekend off, you are cruelly dragged back into reality at the end of the song with the rude awakening of the alarm clock and your momentary bliss is over. Escapism is only ever temporary and XO plays on this concept, but even for three and a half minutes it’s sometimes needed to break away from actuality; and what better way is there than listening to The Light? ‘The Ethereal Experience EP’ will be available to download on iTunes on July 20th.

Madeon shares collaboration with Passion Pit - "Pay No Mind"

Electronic music's A-list producer, Madeon has announced the second single taken from his début album titled "Pay No Mind" featuring Passion Pit. He has also announced his first headline London show in 2 years at Oval Space on March 31st.

Madeon on his new single
" ... "Pay No Mind" is one of the earliest tracks I wrote for the album, I've been a huge Passion Pit fan for years so they came to mind right away. I wanted some extra guitars on the song and reached out to Sam from Two Door Cinema Club (I met them after producing their last single). It's one of those songs that came together very naturally. I love it because it reflects a lot of my influences, from electronic sounds to 70's Wurlitzer keyboards."

Introducing... The Six

The Six are one of those rare bands on the internet, relatively unknown yet they have one song that's amassed over 45,000 plays on soundcloud! They released their first proper single called "Too Much Love" on EDM.com's account and they have been getting some serious attention. So what of it? Well the reason why we think they're going to do well is that one of their members also is one third of Delphic.

Rick is Delphic's keyboard/synth player and he's known for his dance remixes and his angelic backing vocals on Delphic tracks. They really have stuck upon a great debut track here and with some amazing house grooves coming from it they still retain that fresh new band sound that we can't help but get excited about, yes house music is making a comeback thanks to Disclosure, but I really do mean it when I say this, The Six might just be able to keep the trend going! They're supporting Gorgon City on their UK tour soon, so do head on out to catch them live!

The Golden Pony remixes Alt-J's "Hunger of the Pine"

Ever thought, damn, I'd love to dance to Alt-J in a nightclub, well now with this house remix by The Golden Pony you might just be able to. They keep a lot of the original track here with the Miley samples, horns, electronic noises but they speed up the vocals a bit, none the less pretty damn good!

Kele Okereke unveils new track "Doubt"

Bloc Party's front-man Kele Okereke has a brand new solo LP coming out in October, and after releasing a teaser for "Trick", he's released a full stream of the first single off the album, "Doubt".

Four years after his first solo LP came out this has a slightly more house flavour to it after his dabbling in the scene in the past 12 months. Not as electronic as his most recent material, but it's certainly great to hear his vocals again.
