Track of the day... Ideals - Don't Tell Anyone

Ideals are back again, and with yet another free track have they done it again? The answer is yes. Possibly one of the best things to come out of Ipswich since I can remember!



I first heard of Ideals work by the brilliant track 'Forever Leisure', ever since then they have been getting bigger and better as every week has gone by. They are supporting one of the biggest bands to come out of Cambridgeshire, Fenech-Soler next week in Norwich, and honestly I can't wait. 'Don't Tell Anyone' starts off a Bass and hand claps then a whirl of vocals come over the song and a trumpet too! It then goes into the verse, and the lead singers voice is clear and true, then hits the bridge/chorus and the riff is insane! You can hear the drummer working hard to play them, but he pulls it off brilliantly! The slow drop and build up is brilliant as then they hit you with the bridge/chorus again, this gives you a lasting memory about this track. Lovely!

Track of the day... Deep Sea Green - Black Maria

Deep Sea Green, formed in late 2008, is made up of brothers Jon and Dan Jefford, Marco Menestrina and Trent Halliday. In October 2009 they went into the studio for the first time to cut a traditional live-studio album they recorded at Cobblestone studios. The sessions produced ten original tracks in 2 days that were then mixed and mastered at The Woodlodge by the band themselves, and released in digital and CD formats in January 2010.

The band have been performing in and around London through out this year, and in July released an online video of the original song Black Maria, again, produced within the band, whilst developing material for their 2nd album. And Black Maria is our track of the day today.



Crunching bass and guitar welcomes you into their sound from the get go, drums slowly follow. Trents vocals kick in and this track sounds so dark with the combination of all their efforts. The chorus enters into into a heavy rock sound and then reverts back to the (slightly) slower verse. This track is so deep I like it, the second half of the sound. Anyone hear Chris Cornell is this blokes voice, not bad eh!

Track of the day... Chapel Club - All The Eastern Girls

Five piece Chapel Club emerge from the hype machine and have blended their retro feel with 21st centuary lyrics. They are recent signing to the Loog label, Chapel Club are set to release ‘All The Eastern Girls’ on October 11th. An early favourite on live excursions since the band’s inception, ‘All The Eastern Girls’ creeps up all brooding and heartfelt, exploding into life under the lyrics of singer Lewis Bowman. Swooping heart filled guitars , emotional and passionate.



Produced by Paul Epworth , the single is a taste of what’s to come early next year when Chapel Club are set to release their debut album. Released on October 11th , ‘All The Eastern Girls’ is available on limited 7” and digitally through Loog Records.

Track of the day... Feldberg - Dreamin'

Oh I notice this... right? If you have had a listen to the latest Kitsune CD then possibly yes, this duo appeared on the latest Kitsune Compilation album (Number 9), and usually if you get onto there the next year for any of the bands is a good one.

So Feldberg are releasing 'Dreamin'. This track is so summery they have certainly gave the release date some thought. Imagine this track as bluesy, soulful and having wavy calming guitars. The vocals are so complimentary to the music as they too are soothing and gentle over the equally soft electronic song.



Listening to other stuff they do seem to have a wide variety of genres in their music a mixture of folk, soul, electronic and pop. The track Dreaming from their forthcoming album Don’t be a Stranger. Single self released on iTunes Monday 9th August with vinyl coming after.

If I were you please spend 99p on iTunes for this track you won't regret it.

Track of the day... Hurts - Happiness

A friend sent me this track as it sadly does not appear on their debut album, of which, is called Happiness.

This track would fit in well with Better Than Love, Illuminated and Wonderful Life in the tracks that could easily be singles (Better Than Love and Wonderful Life are both singles but you know what I mean).



It starts with a funky beat with Theo's voice performing such high tone, singing 'I don't want your Happiness' and constantly singing that makes me think this song is about him rejecting someones friendship, possibly a old friend? The chorus is euphoric with the synths and keys working in harmony to produce a track (and if it had a funky drum beat) that would easily be played in clubs as drunken people shout out HAPPINESS. They should of really included this track in the album and it's such a shame they didn't. I mean calling a album 'Happiness' and also having a track called 'Happiness' and yet not having on said album is a bit silly don't you think.

Their latest release is for the promotion of the album, since Better Than Love was already a few months ago they are re-releasing Wonderful Life, hopefully on CD, 7" and 12!" I am hoping that this release will have a b-side or even 'Happiness' on it? We shall see.

Track of the day... Them:Youth - Fever Rising

What do you get when you cross Delphic with Pendulum? This fantastic track called 'Fever Rising' by up and coming band Them:Youth. This London 4 piece is definitely going for big anthem tunes, as you can tell from this track!



Their songs have a melancholic edge, combined with an electro beat, and has some funky synths that sound like something a well known dance act should be doing, that somehow makes their songs sound more exciting every time you give it a listen.

Them:Youth finally announced October 2010 as the release date for their highly anticipated (possibly epic) debut album!

Track of the day... The Futureheads - I Can Do That

The Futureheads have had great success with new album 'The Chaos' and track by track you can hear them producing more great singles. New single 'I Can Do That' does just that. In place's its a little samey to previous single 'Heartbeat Song' but then why change a good thing.



The thing i like with The Futureheads is that throughout their career they have never lost the sound they set out to produce and still make good radio friendly indie records. They are going strength to strength and I'm sure bigger and better things are on the cards.

Track of the day... One Night Only - Say You Don't Want It

Helmsley's finest, One Night Only are back. After taking Two years out the boy's are here with new single 'Say You Don't Want It'. The band portray a more mature sound of that from first album 'Started a Fire' and some hint's of a more electro indie sound but still with the pounding Drums and smashing Guitars you would expect to hear.



The main hook in the Chorus 'Say You Don't Want It' shows lead singer George Craig keeping to his strong vocal. The track is sure to be onto a winner with the live crowd and fan's. Having actress Emma Watson in the video is going to give the band a couple of brownie points as well. Over-all it's a great feel good indie pop tune and a good one for the summer. Lets hope more of this from the second soon to be released album 'One Night Only'

The single is released on 16th August and the band's eponymous second album will be released on 23rd August.

Track of the day... Things I Never Told You - Happiness

With their myspace and facebook site only being live for just around a month, this is easily one of the youngest bands I have reviewed.



They will be supporting Kele from Bloc Party on his first ever full UK tour in July. They are from London so they know how hard it is to support a well known act so expect them to be good enough for me!



I have heard five of their tracks via MySpace and they are all infused with bass and funky electronic beats, so this will compliment Keles solo stuff well. Happiness is the track I have chosen to focus on. The bass is hypnotising, you can feel it when you whack your speakers up rippling through your body, the vocals are sung from the heart as you can tell he cares about his music. I have liked everything I have heard from them and can't wait for more stuff. Kinda funny that they put two new songs on MySpace only 2 days ago but still, the live show should give me something else to ponder over.

Track of the day... Bombay Bicycle Club - How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep

I don't understand anyone who is disappointed in them (Bombay Bicycle Club) for having a song in the soundtrack for Twilight. Lets be honest people will now say that Bombay Bicycle Club wouldn't be indie. Which is just a pathetic attempt at blaming them for taking the opportunity to get their music to a bigger audience.

I don't think they did it because of the money or something, but i think it was a great opportunity for them to become more successful. That's basically it, oh wait, it is a great song too! They deserve some proper recognition, hopefully being on the soundtrack will give them some more attention!!!



They have now finished their acoustic album and two songs are now avaliable as a double A-Side download. Ivy & Gold/Flaws.

Track of the day... We Have Band - Oh

It has been around 2 months now since We Have Band released their debut album WHB. But thanks to a select few, I have somehow become more and more interested in one of the tracks. Oh! is their first single, with a whole album of high-energy, catchy dance tunes and sing-along, Oh! is simply the best song from the album!



If you haven’t heard of We Have Band yet, they are a do-it-yourself trio, with Darren Bancroft on vocals, drums and sampler, Dede W-P on vocals, percussion and sampler and Thomas W-P on vocals, guitar, bass and programming, Their debut album, simply titled WHB was released on April 5th and it shows the band’s sound has grown into a more serious kind of alternative electro rock.

Track of the day... Casiokids - Fot I Hose

The Norwegian band Casiokids is an electronic act, but with a few quirks involved. Guitars, Bass, Keyboards, Cassette player, Cello. They have only been playing live for quite some time now but they are getting more and more fans whenever they venture from Norway into the rest of Europe.

Fot I Hose is the type of funky little track you would hear while buying cheap booze abroad, but never could get the name of, because you are either British (and therefore don't want to speak another language) or simply because the staff were distracted by the song itself!

Track of the day... Fenech-Soler - Black Keys

Ok, it's from their demos collection but still, this is by far one of my most played tracks of this week!

If you want to just get told what it sounds like, try Digitalism - Pogo but with a but more heart put into it, and recorded in their bedroom. Starts off slow with a synth and a bass. Kicks in with a deep guitar and vocals follow. The combination of those are just brillaint. The chorus (obviosuly) follows after a drop in the volume, kicks in with full effect!



This can easily be in a nightclub and would be brilliant to see live as they seem to have such energy and heart put into their songs. Thier latest offerings, Stop And Stare and Lies are also just as brilliant but the point of this blog is not to find the obvious bangers but to find the ones people are not aware of.

Track of the day... Chapel Club - Five Trees

Again this is track of the day, but the first time since I have been using facebook.

Chapel Club release their second single 'Five Trees' on May 31st. Having recently signed to A&M Records, 'Five Trees' is the first fruit of this newly consummated relationship whilst also being the first recorded output from the band's recent studio sortie with producer Paul Epworth.



'Five Trees' has been aired at live shows this year and emerges from the studio a different beast shifting the axis of comparisons whilst continuing the band's beguiling knack of creating compelling impressive songs from a songbook on it's first page.

Track of the day... Blood Red Shoes - Don't Ask

The new single from Steven and Laura-Mary, aka Blood Red Shoes, 'Don't Ask', will be out on 10 May in limited edition 7" vinyl and for download. Track of the day... Young Legionnaire - Colossus

Remember Bloc Party? Well, here is their Bassist (and a few more instrumets (Drums, Glockenspiel, Keyboard)) with his side project. I mean I just love how all Bloc Party side projects all sound differant! So...

Young Legionnaire, they played their first, and to my knowledge first gig way back in January. This song is called Colossus, its a free stream track from their facebook site and their soundcloud account.



Seems pretty similar to the type of stuff they played at the gig. Not really keen on the first minute or so but it is fantastic towards the end. Listened to it three times and I'm completely in love with it. It's pretty close to what I was expecting, and if a later recording of this gets a bit beefed up it could be even better.

Track of the day... The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (RAC Remix)

Temper Trap have a knack for getting good remixes of their songs released as b-sides, from the likes of Doorly, Caged Baby, Herve, Mistibisi and now RAC. Who always seems to miss out on having his remixes on official remixes.

Anyway... this fantastic jam finally gets a remix treatment it deserves by (surprise!) RAC layers on just enough juicy synth beat on to get the hips moving but not too much to ruin the beauty. just stay theeeerrrrre, cause i’ll be comin oveeeeerrrrrrr!

Track of the day... Hurts - Wonderful Life (Arthur Baker Remix)

Today is a massive track I have constantly been playing on my record player.

HURTS are a under the radar band who are on the NME Radar tour... This is the tour Florence + The Machine, Marina and The Diamonds, Maximo Park, The Cribs, The Automatic, Blood Red Shoes, La Roux, White Lies and Local Natives. So keep an eye on them ;)
