Peter Hook on The 1975 - "they sound a bit like Hall & Oates"

The ex-Joy Division man has been speaking to Gigwise.com about his upcoming tour and while he was chatting away with them the interviewer mentioned that The 1975 are influenced by them, be responds in simply the only way Peter Hook can.

"The 1975 are a very interesting group, but to me, they sound a bit like Hall & Oates? Their music has that sort of American twang, which is quite interesting considering where they come from"

Joy Division Twitter account angers Peter Hook

You may have seen that Joy Division now have a twitter account. Fans on Facebook were angry at the move, claiming that it "just isn't right to now try and fuel the sales of Curtis' thoughts", As one user commented. The post refers to the book "So This Is Permanence", containing Curtis' thoughts and diaries, which is out October 16th. Another person who wasn't happy with the move was Joy Division's bass player Peter Hook who took to Twitter to vent his anger:

Unknown Pleasures - 35 years on

In 1979 Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister. In 1979 the Khmer Rouge were defeated in Cambodia by the Vietnamese. In 1979 the Islamic Revolution started in Iran.

And, 35 years ago, Joy Division released their debut album "Unknown Pleasures". Although the album wasn't that successful after its release, it is now one of the most important and influential albums of music history. The post punk sound saw in a new era in British music, and, 35 years on still inspires bands.

From the amazing songs to the iconic artwork: Unknown Pleasures is surrounded by a mysterious feel only magnified by Curtis' early death. Perhaps this is why even today teenagers regularly fall in love with the band. Whatever the reason: Happy Birthday, Unknown Pleasures!

Joy Division to re-issue début EP "An Ideal for Living" for Record Store Day

In 1978 Joy Division released an EP called "An Ideal for Living". The record has been bootlegged over the years, and now a "re-imagined" version will be out on April 19th for Record Store Day. The EP was re-mastered at London's Abbey Road Studios in January.
