Friday's Finest

Terrible weather, a 3 day week and yet we've still got you 5 tracks that'll brighten up your week. Get ready for the weekend with these amazing tracks! Us and Slate The Disco have gone all anthems on you all this week!

It's All Indie: Port Isla – Golden Doors
This is the amazing new song from the Norwich Folk band. There currently unsigned but off the back of the next release I can see them being picked up by someone. This track is their best yet, and what’s best is that it’s a free download! I’d keep a close eye on these guys, everything they’ve released so far has been amazing!

Slate The Disco: Calexico – Para
CALEXICO’s new album Algiers, out September 10th 2012. In the United States the record will be released on ANTI, the home of Wilco, Tom Waits and now also Calexico. Recorded in New Orleans, Joey Burns’ and John Convertino’s sixth album is arguably the most exciting and accessible CALEXICO record to date. It’s a fact emphasised by the band’s decision to name the album in tribute to the neighbourhood where they worked: Algiers. To celebrate the release of Algiers, Calexico are offering the first song from the record “PARA” as a free download, get it below…

It's All Indie: Story Books – All Those Arrows
Their song ‘All Those Arrows’ has everything about it that a record label seeks, distinctive vocals yet not too annoying, a captivating chorus, and an amazing band behind the vocals driving it forwards into the consciousness of the masses.

Slate The Disco: Cats and Cats and Cats – Catalogue
As a devout dog fan I was sceptical of a band so into cats, but their self-description of “Math pop story-telling in a museum of crumbling instruments” was enough of an intriguing hook to give them a chance. In retrospect ‘Catalogue’ has the perfect balance of in your face indie mixed with a vast array of well-worked instruments and vocal patterns and playfulness.

Unanimous: Liars – ‘No.1 Against The Rush’ (Mute)
Liars (main picture) – Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill & Julian Gross – release their brand new single ‘No. 1 Against The Rush’ this week ahead of the release of their new album ‘WIXIW’ (pronounced ‘wish you’) their sixth studio album. Always having a brilliant ability to reinvent their sound, this offering is a slightly more muted yet textured offering. There is something gripping and controlling about ‘No.1 Against The World’ and that’s what makes it our joint single of the week!

And until next week... check back at our site and Slate The Disco for more great music news!
