So after the jam packed first day of the Reading Festival I couldn't wait to see what new bands I could see, bands I love and bands I really needed to catch live.
My day opened with a trio of bands gracing the Main Stage, first up was Los Campesinos!. I've Only ever seen them at festivals, yet every time I still get amazed by how well they transfer their tracks from the album into live songs. Never dropping a beat, everything is all in place and Gareth wows the crowd with his charm and wit.
Next up was Blood Red Shoes, I've seen the twice before, one as a full electric set at The Electric Ballroom and one as an Acoustic set in Banquet Records in Kingston, London. To see them on such a big stage was a bit odd, especially considering it's just the two of them. None-the-less Laura-Mary and Steven managed to bring in a massive crowd to witness them play songs of their latest (and best) album. This performance was made even better when I caught a drum-stick. I'll always will be a fan of them!
The next two bands were there for me to fill in some time before I saw Don Broco (more on them later), first Mystery Jets played the Main Stage, personally I've never been a big fan of them yet I couldn't help love the Indie-Pop feel to their light-hearted love songs. I even enjoyed some singing along to 'Two Doors Down'. As I wandered over to the Festival Republic tent I caught most of Oberhofer's set, this was a real joy to behold as I think I've found yet another band to keep an eye on. Their Scottish charm never dulled me out and I found every song to be worth my time!
Don Broco was the main reason why I popped into the tent, a local band for me and a band that I've got to know quite well in recent months. Never seeing them live before I had to check them out. Opening with (arguably) their biggest song 'Priorities' they got the whole tent (and people outside) moshing and dancing. The band themselves were even joining in with some routines of their own, they were easily one of the most energetic bands of the whole weekend!
After the madness of Don Broco I wandered over to the BBC Introducing Stage for my daily dose of Un-Signed music. Max Raptor and Escape To New York were the two bands I caught. The latter being one of the newest bands to play the whole festival, and also being on our 'Ones To Watch' list, they certainly stepped up to the mark and gave a performance to remember. Songs sounded well rounded off, cracking riffs and vocals. Be sure to check them out as there surely going to release a track soon!
The Vaccines, Florence and The Machine and Kasabian ended my day. Kasabain was such a highlight for me, I found myself dancing like a right prick to every song they played. Which ranged from old songs such as 'Club Foot', new songs 'Swichblade Smiles' and even a couple of covers (The Beatles and Fat Boy Slim). Serge and Tom wowed the crowd and kept them well under their spell, the most electric band to grace the Main Stage that day, and easily one of the most exciting to bear witness.
